Horror Strikes Hills—Pictures. All the three hill districts of Bangladesh were struck again by a series of deadliest landslides that have claimed 143 lives until Wednesday and the death toll is likely to go up further. Of the 143 victims, 4 were army men, who died on Tuesday while trying to clear a road blocked by landslide in Rangamati. Another 10 army personnel were injured, five of them critically, and one still remain missing! Scores more were hurt and many remained missing while painstaking rescue work still going on. Heave rain, destruction of hills and trees caused the disasters. The details of each of the pictures are given here under serially: 1. There used to be a road at the base of this mountain in Rangamati Sadar. But after the landslide the road gave away to create a crater as deep as 50 feet. MBN, I just came to check the blogs and have noticed and read your above blog. It's really a heartbreaking disaster. Am very sorry for these people and the families there. The photos speak for themselves. I guess that it was probably caused by the monsoon or torrential rain, though am not sure of it. These people were already in a precarious living situation, now surviving this disaster, it's really poignant. Living in such risky areas, specially when having frequent catastrophic rainy periods, should be prohibited to the population there. However, what one can do in such an appalling hardness. My prayers go to them and for those having lost their relatives. Thank you MBN, for this info which I wasn't aware of, neither read about it too. My sympathy to you and to them also. Take care of yourself and be far from all these . God bless you and all of ours.

Hello MySeek, I simply consider these tragedies as man made which are happening frequently due to climate change and destruction of hills and trees by us--the greedy humans! Thank you so much for leaving such a sympathetic comment on this sad event that has taken away so many lives of the people who lived in their modest houses built on the hills! An inconsolable Suresh Chakma first started walking along the fire service vehicle, pressing his hands against the windshield. When the vehicle picked up speed, he began to run, still touching the windshield. In it lay two of his sisters and their three children -- all dead. Suresh, aged about 40, survived the disaster as he lives away from the hill slopes at Rangapani in Rangamati town where his sisters lived. His shrill cries echoed through the hills. At one point, he stopped running as the ambulance carrying the bodies of his loved ones disappeared into the hills. He buried his face in his palms, and began to sob violently, his body shaking." These people along with the settlers from the plains live there since long and they would not like to be relocated. OMG!! I've read your above response MBN and it's deeply saddening and unfortunate for that man to lose as many relatives in that tragedy. It's really impossible for him to lightly take it. I share his sorrow and feel his despair and desolation. May God give him courage and consolation and appease his great pain. All my deepest sympathy for this dreadful disaster.

What a disaster! It's so sad, Look... We have had similar situations in the past, specially when Hurricane Mitch hit our country. Poor people are the most damaged beause they live on risk areas...Prayers for all affected people. Trust in dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.(Khalil Gibran)
