Under the influence of a severe cold wave.......... Global Warming, Polar Vortex, and Cold waves The cold wave continues to disrupt life across my country. Though it is not like what the Americans and Canadians are enduring now yet the severe cold has paralyzed the life in the northern parts of Bangladesh! The temperature here in my country has gone down to a record low in many places forcing the people to remain indoors! The lowest temperature has been recorded to 2.6 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, located at the far north of Bangladesh. It is the lowest on record until now! The weather office here considers temperatures from 4-6 degree Celsius to be a severe cold wave. Such a severe cold wave has been sweeping across six divisions of Bangladesh since Jan 4 keeping people indoors. People like us, who are living in Dhaka, are currently experiencing medium cold waves which are below 10 degrees Celsius. Fog has become now a regular occurrence from midnight to morning but according to today’s weather bulletin, fog may linger into afternoon in many parts of my homeland. According to Met office forecast, more cold wave for the Dhaka dwellers like me because the mercury would be dripping below 7 degrees Celsius tonight! My readers may be interested to see what happens here in this land when cold waves sweeps across the country- especially in the early morning from the appended pictures. The pictures are mostly from the Northern part of Bangladesh. Before I sign of, I may add that the scientists are of opinion that Polar vortex may cause extreme cold waves that my American readers are now experiencing! And it has proved President Trump’s recent tweet on Weather Pattern wrong. They also say that Polar vortex would continue to happen more frequently in the coming days! If the forecast comes true then it would make our life more measurable here in this part of the world too. Are the scientists correct? Could anyone help me to understand the situation? Does Polar Vortex has anything to do with Global Warming? Meantime Happy Viewing: dear readers. |

And now Weather with.......

The weather patterns are definitely changing around the world with more extremes of hot & cold. The discussion seems to centre around why. Is it natural evolution or caused by human activities? ...... or maybe both? Stay warm~~~

look, clearly your countrymen and women are not equipped for cold weather. It was cold at night here for several weeks, temperatures between Zero and 5°C and one morning I had to defrost the windscreen of the car. But during the day it gets to 15°C and sometimes more. As for the Polar Vortex, it is no doubt true, the warming at the poles triggers cold in the temperate zones. We have known that in Europe for several years and are feeling the effects. I hope you will be out and around again soon.

Wait, where are the humans.

I agree with Karin (MySeek). Climate change is caused 50/50 by natural evolution and mankind. My country has a tropical climate and the temperature varies according to the region. Hot on the north coast, warmer in the south of the country and cooler in the west. Here in the central departments (provinces) the climate is pleasant for me (usually around 30s°C). However, due to the cold waves we have had, I have been wearing sweater for weeks, and sometimes a wool hat and scarf. It's worrying, I think...

I believe it is natural evolution. What happens when people do not read about history? They forget what used to be. The Arctic and Antarctic were once temperate zones and the forests that once were are slowly going to return. I was lucky enough to see, touch and examine the Axil Hiberg Forest on Axil Hiberg Island about 700 miles from the North Pole. The trees etc are not petrified but are more mummified and contain all their organic matter. Imagine the poor creatures back then, it's getting colder, damn climate change, must be the humans. Wait, where are the humans.

Thanks Karin for your input. I should agree with you. I have read about shifting poles! I wonder how this can happen suddenly. Does it not take centuries for shifting of Poles? We humans can only ponder as we are yet to know clearly how nature works! You have done well by not going out. It is better to stay in side home to keep warm. May be, we should give importance to what the scientists says about global warming! Take care and be safe

Deborahsu...Thank you so much for your post left here on my blog page. Internet has not only got us close to each other but also helped us tremendously to enlarge our knowledge almost about everything! We can now share with someone living far away about what is happening at our end by twinkle of eyes! Deb, I am really confused about ongoing climate changes. I wonder when it will be stabilized! Stay well and cheerful. Be safe on the road
