Nothingness

What is nothingness?

Does it really exist?

Some compare nothingness with sleep without having dreams! Is such comparison enough to understand nothingness?

Is it correct to say that nothingness separates the space between object, consciousness, matter, energy, vibrations to give it value, shape, separation, and difference?

Can anyone describe, feel or experience nothingness?

It may be mentioned here that according to English Dictionary, the word nothingness is a noun meaning the absence or cessation of life or existence!

Can anyone please tell me in plane language why the word “nothingness” confuses me (or us) all the times?

Yes, it is beyond our comprehension and to contemplate it, for some reason gives me an eerie feeling.
Years ago, while having extensive dental work, I was put to sleep. I had this strangest sensation of vibrating, then floating off into nothingness..... like empty space where there was no sound, no sight, and no sensations. It was weird and when I awakened, I had this eerie, uneasy and sick feeling that returned every time I thought of it for a very long time.
The next time I needed to be put under, I explained my hesitancy, and they assured me of a whole different medication and I never had that sensation again..... THANK GOD!

I WONDER IF NOTHINGNESS AND EMPTINESS ARE NOT OFTEN THOUGHT TO BE THE SAME THING? NOTHING IS THE OPPOSITE OF EVERYTHING OR SOMETHING. EMPTY IS THE OPPOSITE OF FULL. SOMETIMES WE FEEL EMPTY NO EMOTION NO FEELING BUT IS IT THE SAME AS FEELING NOTHING? THE SKIES ARE NOT EMPTY ARE THEY? INTERESTING QUESTIONS LOOK THANKS FOR HAVING BROUGHT THEM UP.

Nothingness is no feeling state..thought free state of the mind.

according to Tom Mc Farlane M.A philosophy and religion

Nothingness, also called emptiness , does not mean that things do not exist at all. It means that things lack an inherent, independent, self-existence. While being nothing in this sense, they are something in the sense that they do have a conventional existence in dependence upon various other causes and conditions.

interesting!!!.....

It confuses me too Look. My doctor once asked me "Do you ever sit down and empty your mind of everything?" I'd never thought about such a thing, never done it, and couldn't even tell if it's possible to do it. For me, as long as I'm awake, my mind is functioning and I thought that was the same for everyone. I do meditate, but even then my mind is in action. How does one turn off the mind?
I have never found that out!

Quite something to think of, isn't it?

Hello Mrs.Joe,
Perhaps it would always remain beyond my comprehension as I could remember nothing what happened when I was put to sleep twice in the past three years by my doctors! Another time, long before, I lost consciousness suddenly near the staircase while I started going down to the ground floor of my house to be with the other members of the family! I remained there unconscious until I was discovered lying on the floor by a house maid! I could not recollect how long and what happened to me during the time I remained unconscious! Maybe, I would understand nothingness when I would finally cease to live!
Take care and stay happy.

Hello Archer,
Perhaps nothingness has nothing to do with emptiness. Is fullness the opposite word of nothingness? I presume it is not the opposite word. While emptiness is a state of being, nothingness is not such a state of being! We always presume existence of something somewhere first before we can empty it. A high school student says, "Emptiness is when something has nothing inside of it.
Nothing is when there is not a something to be empty." Confusing, is it not?
Thanks for pondering on the matter. I appreciate. Stay well and cheerful!

Hello Queen,
Thanks for stopping by the blog page of mine. The philosopher seems to be right in this case though another philosopher may have another theory! I believe that most of the times the philosophers confuse us! Nothingness must not be called emptiness. It has nothing to do with emptiness! To me nothingness is nothing! Yes queen, the issue is interesting but confusing too!
Have a nice day, dear lady.

Hello Deb,
I am delighted to read from you here again. You are always welcome here on my page, Deb. Hope, you did not mind for putting your mind to work last morning. Until someone could convince me to the contrary, nothingness will continue to be nothing to me! Have a wonderful weekend.

Katie hello,
You can never empty your mind! No one can do it. Something or someone dear would always remain in mind even when we meditate! No one can turn of one’s mind unless one is ceased to exist! Even then, it is impossible to imagine what happens to one’s mind when one dies!
I am happy to read from you here on my blog page. Always stay well and happy.

Actually, I do not believe that ceasing to live on this earth leads to nothingness, but to even more awareness than we have here. Have a great weekend, LookLook.

I am delighted to read from you on here. Joannita and in response to your post, I may kindly be permitted to say that we humans can only explain limited things that we try to understand throughout the period of our existence in the world. Therefore, I know that I shall never come up with a definition of "Nothingness" that will satisfy me.
Have pleasant times always.
