To live a life!

While growing up in a country occupied by a colonial power, I was reminded frequently by my parents the off repeated saying “life is a onetime offer” that ought to be used well throughout my entire life! I was advised by my learned teachers to train myself properly to “live life to the fullest” throughout the time I shall be living in this world!

I am frequently now being asked by my close friends whether I am unhappy with the life I have so far lived? No doubt the question is innocent one and many such innocent questions I have faced during the life I have lived so far!

In response to such question, I always feel like quoting a few lines from my incomplete poem written inspired by a famous Indian song writer named Gulzar and posted hereunder for everyone to read and ponder upon:

I am neither angry, nor unhappy with you, life
I am just amazed with you!
All the times
Your innocent questions
had touched my heart
And made me feel guilty
for not being able to
Live the life to the fullest!

Yet, I am indebted to you, life
For keeping me alive so long
To spend days and nights
And to keep pains and sorrows
Confined in the secret chamber of my heart
Along with pleasure and happiness
Accumulated therein simultaneously!

Life, I am indebted to you
For teaching me how to smile
In sadness and in pain
In joy and happiness.
Sometimes you made me cry
In joyous and happy moments
When tears used to flow down from my eyes
A few drops of which
I have kept hidden
To shed at the right moment!

Now, at the fag end of my life, when I look back, I can’t definitely say that I lived the life to its fullest! I can’t also say that the “one time offer” has been utilized well by me as I was asked by my parents long before. But I feel really happy for what I have accomplished so far in my life!.

I don’t know where the few drops of tears were kept hidden by me from time to time have gone during the years while living the life, sometimes fearfully- sometime boldly and sometimes, most lovingly!
These tears were tears of joy and happiness kept hidden for the final hours of my life when pleasant memories will rash back to make me ready to meet my creator’s messenger with a smile!
I now simply count days of the remaining period of my life thinking each of the day spent is the last day of my life!

"In the end, only three things matter:

**How much you loved....

**How gently you lived....

**..... and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you."

I think this quote says it all~~~

I believe the older we get, the more we ponder on those things.

Party until the lights go out.
Then my kids will have what I did.
That is what I have lived for.
Pass it on & give up ZERO.

THE PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE IS WHOSE LIFE THEY ARE LIVING: THE ONE THEY HAVE CHOSEN OR THE ONE PARENTS OR SOCIETY HAVE CHOSEN FOR THEM. LIVING THE LIFE YOU HAVE CHOSEN PERSONALLY CAN BE VERY DIFFICULT AND PAINFUL AT TIMES BUT ALSO VERY REWARDING WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE. BEING ON THE HOME STRETCH AND LOOKING BACK, I REALIZE I HAVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED ALL I HAD HOPED FOR BUT STILL HAVE ACCOMPLISHED A LOT MORE THAN WHAT SEEMED POSSIBLE TO MANY PEOPLE.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ELISABETH GEORGE'S NEW NOVEL, "THE PUNISHMENT SHE DESERVES" WHICH POSES THE QUESTION FOR WOMEN COMING FROM A FAMILY THAT CAME FROM YOUR PART OF THE WORLD;

Archer, I have no regret for the life that I had chosen myself and lived so far though the life was no doubt hard and challenging too. Needless to say, that it was rewarding also. I have accomplished more than what I had hoped for while joining the profession at a very young age. I am yet to read the latest suspense work of Elisabeth George. As recommended by you, I would not fail to read the novel if I can procure it from the local book shop.
Have a nice weekend, Archer.

Lucy, thank you so much for liking the poem. I lived a life until now that has not only been difficult but challenging too. True, there was ups and down in my life too like others but life has taught me to remain satisfied with the end results. Thank you once again for stopping by and for your comment. Please stay well and cheerful always.

Looklook. May I write here something relatively, it is a quite well known quote:
"Life is a stage where everyone plays his role. Be it cool, Be it good or Be it rough. But one has to play his role according to his choice in his life and ...."That's life". Ninu must keep the good side of Life and hope. There is a french proverb which says: "Tout vient a bout a qui sait attendre". Remain well and keep happy. With my best regards.

Yes, Lisa, "Everything comes to end who can wait "! I have waited throughout the life that I have lived so far for something wonderful to happen until a year or two back when I had given up all hopes! I am delighted to read from you here again after such a long time. Take Care of yourself and stay cheerful always.

No Ninu, the french quote doesn't mean so, as you know expression in a language can never nor can be translated word by word. The above means "Everything comes to realization to whomever can wait". In other term, it means, keep hope and be positive. The best may come when you don't really expect it. Ponder upon it Ninu. May the hopes give you some happiness and encouragement meanwhile. Hold on some joy and Take care of yourself too.

Lisa, true, that something expressed in one language cannot be translated word by word in another language! I did not try to do so. I simply wanted to tell you about the time I spent hoping that something wonderful would happen in my life. Anyway, as both translations tell about waiting for something to happen, I have no problem to accept your version as you speak French at home. You know that neither English nor French is my mother tongue. Yes Lisa, "the best may come when we don't really expect it."
Wishing you all the best. Have pleasant time.
