My entire day, cloudy sky, rains, are for you. Our long wait for rain drops falling everywhere throughout the country where I live has finally ended. Monsoon has at last arrived though it is late this year! I don’t know the exact time when the rain started falling last night but the continuous rhythmical sound of the falling rains awakened me early in the morning. We all know monsoon is essentially the seasonal reversal in wind direction that causes rainfall in the sub-continent and elsewhere! It is the “most anticipated weather phenomena and an economically important pattern every year from June through September which is partly understood and notoriously difficult to predict.” As usual, the monsoon rains would provide us the much-expected relief from unbearable summer heat. However, it could bring sudden disaster too. It has already flooded the world’s largest refugee camps located in Cox’s Bazar sheltering men, women and driven from their hearth and home by Aung San Suu Kyi and her military Junta. Monsoon rains sometimes accompany lightening and devastating storm we call “Cyclone”. Yet, we look forward for it for the crops to grow. Our poets and novelists have romanticized monsoon season from time immemorial. I was listening to such a song which I intend post here below . Maybe, the lyrics of the song translated by me in English, would be an interesting read for those who used to walk in the rain like me during their childhood days. The translated text of the song in English is appended for my readers to read and then view the pictures of rainy monsoon evenings of the city where I live: My entire day , cloudy sky, rains, are for you Just asked the Śrāvaṇa evening from you for me . I keep the eyes open to the window of heart Ears are alert to listen the wind whistling Asking to come nearby from mind’s courtyard Yet rain, I asked you to go back. My entire day, cloudy sky, rains, are for you Let the night be composed by you This is my dream, my thought of elation Whom I desire I don’t want to lose Therefore, oh rain, I want you back. My entire day , cloudy sky , rains, are for you. Words in Bangla: Lilamoy Patro. Music: Joy Sarker Singer (Amar Sharata Din): Srikanto Acharya. |

YOUR MONSOON CAME LATE, OUR HEAT CAME VERY EARLY. WEATHER PATTERNS SEEM TO BE CHANGING. IF THE CANNES WINNING FILM "PARASITE" COMES TO DACCA, YOU WILL SEE AN IMPRESSIVE PART ABOUT THE DAMAGE MONSOON RAINS CAN CAUSE.

Wonderful pictures and a fantastic view of a different world. I still love walking in the rain, when no thunder and lightening and I still love just splashing in the puddles. Guess I am just a child at heart.

deborahsu, Thank you so much for your post. The comments left here on my blog page by you have taken me back to the early years of my boyhood days when we used to be in our village home during rainy seasons along with our cousins and lived out the time merrily together. Those were the days when we were really free and unrestrained. Thanks again for your nice words and for liking the blog. Take care and stay happy always.

hiramhankwilliam, what you have mentioned about the weather conditions that you are now experiencing in your part of America are really scary! You say that hot days are still to come. It means, you are to use Air conditioning machines all the times which would surely raise your electric bills. If the phenomena are of recent origin then weathermen are to find out why temperature is going up there. You know that weather pattern is changing everywhere in the world gradually, and as such human race needs to address the situation unitedly. Best wishes. Take Care

RubiSleepinBuuty, I am really pleased to learn that it rained there where you live. Hope that you are having a pleasant time there now. Though I prefer rainy season than summer times, I am scared of the destructive capability of the Monsoon system too. I have seen deaths and destruction caused by monsoon storm many times in my life. Could anyone tell why nature suddenly gets angry and why it requires to hit us mercilessly before cooling off to normal condition again? Take care Karen and stay cheerful always.

Wow the pictures really do tell it all, they are a glimpse into real life. I hope the monsoons are welcome and don't cause any problems. Wonder, though monsoon is most sought-after season here, it can cause serious disaster too. Besides flooding the coastal belt and low-lying areas of Bangladesh, it may cause devastating cyclones from time to time. Take care. Stay cheerful always.

Sometimes when it really rains in Vancouver we call it monsoon weather. But it isn't hot and humid like it would be in India. My brother spent three years in Bihar, India. He still gets a yearning to go back there again but he is turning 80 in a couple of weeks so I don't think there is any chance now of him going back. These are interesting pictures that you posted. Thanks for showing us a glimpse of your life in India and especially when it rains.
