The eternal quest of the lost love!

When did I surge out chanting your name?
That was not today, not today.
Forgot, from when have I been yearning for you?
That was not today, not today.

Like the spring flowing out
Not knowing whom it wants
I arrived traversing along with the flow of life.
That was not today, not today.

By how many names have I called thee
By how many ways have I painted thy image
In what joyous delight have I wandered not knowing the goal
That was not today, not today.

Like the flower waiting for light
Unknowingly remains awake throughout the night,
My heart longs constantly for you.
That was not today, not today.

"Kobe ami bahir holem" by R N Tagore. Translated from Bengali to English by me for someone whom I adore.

LOVELY POEM LOOKLOOK. AH THE SADNESS OF GROWING OLD AND LOOKING BACK ON YOUNGER DAYS.

Dear Archer, let me post again what I quoted for you to read elsewhere in response to one of your comments that you had posted on one of my blog pages:
"I take frequent strolls down memory lane,
Sometimes it's sunny and pleasant,
Other times it's cold,
windy and raining."
Archer, those were the days when I used to consider everything beautiful and lovely! Take Care. Be safe.

Beautiful poem LookLook. I often take a stroll down memory lane. Sometimes it makes sad other times happy.

Wonderful text Syed, thank you. Good read with lots of emotion as well, when one goes down the memory lane, there's lots to think about and lots to remember. Lots to ponder upon, lots to be happy of and lots to bitterly regret too. Life is a flower with multicolored petals. But before the flower wilts, one may desiccate it or dry it up to preserve it as a visual representation of the past. With a definition to each chosen colored, designating it as: for the good, for the bad, for the better and for the worse moments of life. Thank you again for your blog. I wish you all my best, hoping to meet you in lobby soon. Take care of yourself always. God bless.

Lisa, thanks for stopping by my blog pages and leaving such a thoughtful comment on the text of the Tagore's song "Kobe Ami Bahir Holem" translated by me for someone I adore from Bengali to English. Since you are one of the subscribers of my music channel, you may listen to the song by opening the channel if you like. Every night, while listening the song, I stroll down the memory lane and recollect the time I passed with the person for years though living across a vast ocean apart! I know you are living alone now. Take care. Be safe.

Very beautifully translated. Excellent work.

Thanks, Karen, for your comment. I appreciate. The song was written by the first Asian Nobel Laureate for literature R N Tagore in the year 1910 in Bengali- my mother tongue. You can listen the song if you Google "Kobe Ami Bahir Holem” if you like. Stay well. Be safe.

Nice sentiment LookLook. I think as we age we stroll down memory lane frequently. I seem to reflect back to the days when I was younger. It certainly was less stressful. But then there was no social media. Our connection to the world was the radio. In those days it seemed like a big thing.
Stay well and be safe LookLook!

Shartaun, thanks for your post. It is always nice to read from you here on my blog page. True, having a radio during those days when we were young was a big thing. I still remember those days when I used to go to a restaurant together with my friends to listen to music that used to be broadcast-ed by Radio Ceylon regularly. Those were the days that will never be forgotten by me! Take Care and be safe. Stay happy, Shartaun

Another lovely poem from Tagore, look. Thank you so much for introducing me to Tagore and sharing some of his beautiful work. I'll be rereading this one. I always get more with reading poems more than once.
I'm really enjoying your blog. Lol, I'm taking it slowly and savoring each post. I love the topics I've read so far. Some I skimmed just to get a taste and will go back later... I know reading them will lead me to googling and studying and I'll spend many happy hours learning more. Thank you, look.

Kate, you are welcome here on my blog pages. It makes me happy to read from you who tries to understand the inner message of a poem written by a great poet by reading it more than once. I don't mind reading a poem more than a few times to understand its inner message. I remember those days when I first read the English poet John Donne. It took days before I could understand what Donne wanted to tell in his poem" The Canonization." I take this opportunity to bring to your notice my blog titled "The Sound of Flute." Please read the poem and let me know your views on it. Tagore's works inspired me to write it. Thanks again for stopping by. Be safe. '
