The Downpour.

The downpour of my dark night
Come, come secretly
On the disoriented shore of my dreams.
The downpour of my dark night.

Oh, the inner treasure of darkness
Do shroud my heart and soul.
Don’t want, I don't want
I don't want either the sun or the star.
The downpour of my dark night.

When all are lost in deep slumber
Do come and rob me of my sleep.
Come silently in the lonely room as a melody
And make a response to my tears.
The downpour of my dark night.

Translation of Tagore song Amar Nishitho Raater Badal Dhara.

আমার নিশীথরাতের বাদলধারা
এসো হে গোপনে
আমার স্বপনলোকে দিশাহারা…

The rain often helps people to sleep, it doesn't usually help me, but I do enjoy it. Lately, since the murder of my son, I find solace in it.... like the sky is also crying along with me.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

You are absolutely right that rain often helps people to sleep, Mrs. Joe. I am one such person. I didn't know that your son was murdered by someone who does not care about a fellow human's life. May your beloved son rest in peace. True, the sky would continue to cry along with you. Wishing you and your family a Happy and safe New Year.

Thanks for liking the illustration. I am not sure if it is a photo or a painting/drawing! I liked the image and used it here to illustrate the gentle night rain. Stay well. Wishing you and yours a happy and safe 2021.

Katy, I am delighted to read from you here on my blog page. Tagore's poems and or songs are difficult to translate into another language though Tagore himself had translated some of his works into English. Gitanjali ( Song Offerings ) is a collection of poems translated into English from Bengali by Tagore himself. He was awarded Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for this particular work. By the by, I take this opportunity to let you know that Tagore and Yeats were close friends. Stay well and safe always, Katy.

So interesting, look. I knew I had seen Tagore's name recently when you mentioned him to me in chat but didn't remember where right away. Then when you told me they were friends, I realized that I had seen his name when reading online about Yeats. Thank you for telling me about Tagore and his friendship with Yeats. I've just started reading about it and them. Interesting that it had political overtones as well as the connection through their poetry. I had never thought about similarities between Ireland and India. It's made me want to read more about both their histories. I love history too. Did you know there is a statue of Tagore in a small town in Ireland? I forget which one lol. I was very tired when I was reading about it late last night. I'll find out which one when I go back to finish the article I was reading. It was a good one put out by Emory University. I'll post the title later for you if you'd like. Too bad we can't share links...I'd post it for you. Thank you so much for sharing with me about this. And thank you for your kind wishes. I wish the same to you, look...stay safe and well.

Katy, thanks for your above post that has surely made the commentary page of this blog informative and interesting readable matter. As far as I know, Tagore's statue was unveiled in Stephen's Green in the year 2011 by the then India's External Affairs Minister, Praneet Kaur, and the then Irish Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore. The Statue was the work of award-winning sculptor Gautam Pal. Please feel free to post the title at your convenient time. Take care and stay safe.
