Just Two Steps!

I traveled miles, for many a year
I spent a lot in lands afar
I’ve gone to see the mountains
The oceans, I’ve been to view
But I haven’t seen with these eyes
Just two steps from my home lies
On a sheaf of paddy grain
A glistening drop of dew.

The message communicated by the Bengali Nobel laureate poet R N Tagore in the above poem is true to many of us who had to visit various countries of the world either for business purposes or as a globe-trotter. Believe me, though I had the opportunity to travel from time to time, it never occurred to me to see many interesting objects in the small town where I grew up.

I think of the mess caused by the greed for fossil fuels, the entitled assumption that travel opens the mind......and then there is Tagore's simple, genius poem......a drop of dew close to home......

TxJW, thanks for your post. There is nothing in the world that is sweeter than home. Homes are our roots. We come back to the roots at day's end.

Quote At day's end, like the hush of dew
Comes evening. A hawk wipes the scent of sunlight from its wings.
When earth's colors fade and some pale design is sketched,
Then glimmering fireflies paint in the story.
All birds come home, all rivers, all of life's tasks finished. unquote

How very true. Sometimes we fail to see the beauty around us. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Maudie, as usual, your post has enriched the blog. Thanks for finding time to read the blog. I know you and your partner travel a lot. I wonder, do you feel secure and safe like me when you two return to your root? Be safe.

PERHAPS I AM ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE WHO NEVER SAW ANYTHING VERY INTERESTING IN THE PLACE FROM WHERE I COME. IN FACT I HAVE FOUND SO MUCH MORE WHERE I LIVE NOW THAT I HAVE NO REGRETS.

Archer, every place on this beautiful planet of ours has something interesting that can make us proud. It could be a unique object or a hidden gift from nature. Maybe, in our cases, such things have escaped our attention. Be safe and stay cheerful.

Perhaps it takes seeing things away from home to make us appreciate what we do have close to us.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

How very true, Mrs. Joe. It happened in my case not once but many a time. Stay well and cheerful always

I haven't been able to travel courtesy of the pandemic thus learned to appreciate what is within my own community.

Star, sometimes things like pandemics and or natural calamities teach us how to survive the onslaughts and appreciate what is available in and around us at the same time. Stay well and happy always, Star. Be safe.
