Pineapple Bicycles P for Pineapple Pineapple is widely cultivated almost everywhere in Bangladesh which is my homeland. Madhupur region, located near the city of Dhaka, is the largest pineapple growing area in Bangladesh. Perhaps, my readers would not be interested to visit the pineapple gardens with me. However, I am sure that they will be interested to see the pineapple market and how the pineapples are carried there by the farmers. At seven in the morning, the pineapple market in Madhupur turns bustling. If you stand somewhere on the highway near the marketplace, you will be amazed to see how the farmers carry their products to the market! They are mostly cyclists! I have posted below some such pictures for my readers to see. Unfortunately, the farmers do not get good prices for their produces as the market is a wholesale one. The price of each pineapple is less than One US Dollar during harvesting season. Photo credit: Abdul Momin |

Handling the pineapples looks like hard physical work! I have a new appreciation for everything that has to happen before they make their way into my kitchen!

Thank you Look for sharing this, very interesting and great pictures. Farmers are never paid enough for their hard work, it's a wonder that we still have people who want to farm.

Several years ago my late longtime gal friend and neighbor and I went to Hawaii. We saw pineapple farms but didn't see anything like this. I wish we could have. Thanks for sharing these photos with us.

Very interesting! So much of our farming skills are gone.... replaced by machines. I used to buy whole pineapples and the children loved it when we carved them and they got to eat the fresh raw fruit. For cooking and baking, I used the canned fruit, and I was sort of famous for my pineapple upside down cake. Golly, I haven't baked one of those for years. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I love starting my morning out with fresh pineapple! I visited a pineapple "plantation" while in Mexico....so interesting and had a local cake with pineapple baked right into it with a syrup sort of sauce.

Thanks, Nileyears, for visiting this blog of mine. Your comments on farming have made me thoughtful! What would happen to us if the Farmers stop farming? Take care of yourself. Be safe.

TxJW, I am delighted to read from you here on my blog page. You have asked me to clarify how does the market operates? Wholesalers of pineapples and other fruits from different areas of the country throng the Pineapple markets to buy the sweet and juicy pineapples soon after the products start coming to market. The farmers sell their pineapples both to individuals as well as to the bulk buyers. The canning Companies usually do not buy from these markets. They buy from those farmers who have entered into sale contact with them in advance. As pineapple is a highly perishable product, the farmers like to sell them to the bulk buyers who, intern, sale the fruits to the retailers. Though it is difficult to make the middlemen disappear completely, our Government is now trying to help the growers to get fair prices for their products. Thanks for visiting the blog. Your comments have enriched it immensely. Take care. Be safe.

Good to see you back here on my blog page, Sewg. These people use Bicycles to save the cost of carrying pineapples to market. They are not only hard-working but innovative too. Take Care.

It is amazing what people carry on their bicycles in countries where that is the main mode of transportation. I've watched documentaries. I am sure that Hawaii has fruit trucks. Pineapple is one of my favorite fruits and it won't grow in West Virginia.
