Forgotten Architectural Technology! The Forgotten Technology Is it possible to break an egg by putting pressure on it vertically? Have anyone of you ever tried to do so? I tried but in vain. Perhaps I am not efficient enough for doing this particular job perfectly! However, the truth is that if you put pressure on an egg vertically, it will not break. Don't be surprised if I say that this is a building science! Our forefathers were aware of this building science though they never used eggs under the basement of the structures to hold their weights! They used a much larger egg-shaped material for various purposes such as holding weights, controlling temperature, and protecting the structures from earthquakes and floodwaters! Please look at the two photos posted below: Photo #1 reveals the basement of a Mughal-era one-story structure supported by clay pots underneath. The structure is 300 years old. It was built in our port city Chittagong. After dismantling part of the basement of the building, the clay pots were found to be supporting the whole structure, which fascinated the locals. Our government has decided to take over this 300-year-old building to preserve it as a national heritage due to its archaeological importance. The owners wanted to demolish the entire building to replace it with a multi-story apartment building. They would be duly compensated by the government. I find it amazing that some architectural structures from centuries ago are still intact, yet buildings in recent decades are crumbling. It is also that way with houses. Some that were built a century or even more ago are still sound, but homes built in the last 10-20 years need repairs, and not just cosmetic ones. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

The technology is not only fascinating but innovative too! Though the builders of such buildings could not obtain degrees from modern Engineering Universities, they were probably self-taught innovative persons. There was a time when I used to pass time with the potters of my village where I grew up. These potters mostly made clay cooking utensils. I miss these potters and the potter’s wheels, Sandy. Fescinating photos and post, Look, thanks for sharing it with us. There are thousands of homes built here in Ireland in the mid -1990s to mid-2000s are just crumbling away. The houses were built with defective mica blocks. A nightmare for the homeowners for sure.

The first two houses fall easily to the big bad wolf but the brick house stands strong. This is very interesting! Our forefathers were very innovative as many archeological findings show. I lately watched a round-table talk about excavations that give deep insights in civilizations 4 thousand years ago. When I was young, I wanted to study archeology but had to drop it, because my life plan changed. All the clay pots are hollow, I guess! Thank you for this blog, looklook. Many years ago my sister wanted a waterbed. I told her the floor of the home where she lived was not stable enough to support the weight. Later I went for a visit and there was the waterbed. LOL I asked-----Did you think I was lying? She said the salesmen proved the waterbed was not heavy,!!!!!! They placed a paper cup upsides down under each of the 4 bed legs ------filled it with water and the paper cups did not crush or break. LOL Cone dynamics ------ and my sister was not one of the brightest. LOL
