An Unbound Viewing Pleasure!

Another two months to go from this date. The villagers will be busy cultivating the Water Lilies for the next Nine months- March to November.
The water Lilies become pink-colored when in full bloom.
The flowers grow in wetlands.

The village is located 60 miles away from the city of Barisal, where I grew up and lived till 1957.
The flower is called Shapla locally. The name of the village is Satla.
The whole landscape of the village turns into a feast for the eyes when the pink water lilies are in full bloom.
The best time to enjoy the breathtaking view of this natural phenomenon is in the early morning.
Besides medicinal properties, water lilies are also eaten by humans as tasty vegetables in curries. Those who suffer from skin conditions, liver infections, calcium deficiency, and diabetes benefit from eating water lilies as vegetables.

I have forgotten to mention that this flower is our national flower. None of the photos were shot by me. Photos collected.

Yes, these are beautiful Flowers, Rocket. Here in my country, water lilies come in shades of white, yellow, pink, orange, and red. Lilies change colors as the bloom progresses. I like the white variety of water lily as it symbolizes purity and virtue. The pink variety is known as the stargazer. It symbolizes prosperity and abundance. Have a pleasant 2023. Stay safe.

Those pictures of the Water Lilies are breathtaking, Anam. I only know the white kind, but never covering such a big area. Are the flowers used as vegetables or the leaves too?
Stay healthy and safe this Year 2023.

The water lilies are not only edible but also have medical properties. Villagers can procure them from the ponds and wetlands free of cost, but people living in the towns or cities buy the lilies from vegetable vendors. Stay well and cheerful, dear Archer. Have a pleasant 2023.

I wish you a Happy and prosperous New Year too, dear Shartaun. The Village is known as the kingdom of the Water Lilies. Water lilies are tasty vegetables. I like to eat these particular vegetables. Very tasty and fibrous too. Please don't be surprised if I say that fibers extracted from water lilies are used for making home textiles. It has multiple uses in our lives. Take care. Be safe.

Thanks for your post, Nile. I always like to read your comment left here. The bird standing on the leaf of the water lily is known as the Pheasant-tailed jacana. In Bengali, it is called "JHAL MOYUR" (Water Peacock). It makes a nest there on the leaves. The bird likes to play, makes love to its partner, and fights with its competitor all on these Lily leaves. It survives eating fish and insects found in the wetlands. Be safe. Have a pleasant 2023.

Karin, Delighted to read your comments here. Water Lilies look amazing in the morning when they are in full bloom. I used to visit this kingdom of water Lilies very often when I lived in my hometown long before.
These flowers grow in a rainbow of colors: pink, red, orange, yellow, purple, and blue. They have two varieties- Tropical Varieties and Hardier Varieties. Water Lilies have multiple uses in our life. The leaves of this flowering plant are not edible.
Take care, dear Karin. Have a safe and pleasant 2023.
