"Moheen's Horses".

" Moheen's Horses" (Moheener Ghoraguli in Bengali) was a Bengali rock group from Kolkata, established in 1975 and disbanded in 1981. The group was similar to the urban folk movement led by Bob Dylan in the 60s. Their music style was influenced by Bengali Folk, Baul, Urban American folk, and Jazz. Sometimes they described the music style as " Baul Jazz." Gautam Chattopadhyay was the leader of the group. I posted below the English translation of one of the group's songs sung by Gautam in Bengali and translated by me in English for my English-speaking readers. It was one of my favorite ones. I still listen to it whenever I feel like it. I am sure the original Bengali version of the song is far better than my English Translation.

The world is getting smaller and smaller,
In the hands of satellite and cable,
Trapped inside the idiot box in the drawing room.

Sitting in the room with the whole world,
Communication stays in hands' grasp
That crosses the boundaries of time and space.

Could you think,
Like the stars that are light years away, far away,
You and I are gradually drifting further away?

Rows of the face come and goes,
Intoxicated eyes are glued to the TV Screen,
Like insects making treaties with fire.

Sitting side by side and watching together,
Not together but alone,
A tactic of yours and my rented net!

Could you think,
Like the stars that are light years away, far away,
You and I are gradually drifting further away?

Smuggling of dreams
Have no place for you and I,
This eye-catching game is just a hint.

Better come near the open window,
By taking a wrong road
Where we may find more companions.

Could you think,
Like the stars that are light years away, far away,
You and I are gradually drifting further away?

The name of the band 'Moheener Ghoraguli' was derived from the poem Ghora (Horse), written by the Bengali poet Jibanananda Das. The second related line of the poem is appended:
"Moheen's horses graze on the horizon in Autumn's moonlight. "

IT WOULD BE INTERESTING AND INSTRUCTIVE TO KNOW HOW MANY FAMILIES HAVE FALLEN APART BECAUSE OF TV AND SOCIAL MEDIA. HOW NOT GETTING OUT AND INTERACTING WITH REAL PEOPLE IS MOVING US FURTHER FROM REAL LIFE. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE INTERNET HAS BROUGHT US TOGETHER DESPITE THE THOUSANDS OF MILES THAT SEPARATE US PHYSICALLY. HOW PARADOXICAL CAN YOU GET???

Mohiner Ghoraguli is the first rock band in India. Unfortunately, they made music in West Bengal, a state of India only. The younger generation of my homeland, Bangladesh liked to listen this band’s music though they were from our neighboring country. But they were almost unknown in India in their time. But not now. Their contribution to Indian Music is now being recognized. I tried to translate this song in English word by word properly as far as I could. I am glad to read your post left above. Thanks, dear Rocket. Take Care. Stay happy always.

Hi looklook,

The words remind me of one of the verses of a tune called "My little country girl"

My little country girl, she couldn't understand,
why they wanted to bring - television to the land,
she said it was a substitute for the poor people in the town,
to fill their head with fantasies and to keep the population down.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Archer, your post above has made me thoughtful. I can neither guess nor tell you how many families have fallen apart because of TV and social media. I can only infer the reply to your question in one word. The word is 'many.'
True, the digital world has taken us many miles away from real life. Perhaps, the time is not far when we shall forget the term 'personal relationship' which was so important for us in the past.
You are correct when you say that the Internet has brought us together on the screen despite the thousands of miles that separate us from each other. But it has made us forget the feelings of touching each other.
Archer, my friend, "it has become harder to take your eyes off a screen to enjoy life as it’s happening". Take care, my friend. Have a pleasant time.

Hermit, thanks for stopping by and for your post. Could you please tell me what the little country girl will say about Television now? Has it not shaped human society during the last 75 years.? It has changed our lives whether we like it or not. The idiot box in the drawing room will continue to shape our lives until something new replaces it. Stay safe.

Thank you so much, dear Shartaun, for your post. I feel so happy when I read words of appreciation here and above from wonderful people like you. Thanks again, dear friend. The song was written and sung more than 50 years before. Yet, whenever I listen to it, I feel like listening to it for the first time! Be safe.

I don't have a TV, problem solved. I haven't watched a TV in my house for over 10 years, radio either.

Just use the internet on a computer, I pick and choose exactly what to look at.
Check emails once or twice a fortnight, I miss a few events, doesn't matter.

Don't even have internet on my phone, I deleted the feature many years ago, don't even have voice mail, I'm not interested in a list of call backs. I tell my friends to text me if they want me, I'll get to them when I'm ready to, it upsets a few people but I don't care. Turn the phone off when I have a nap or don't want to be disturbed. Great for mental health.

TV news etc is so depressing anyway, plus I don't believe most of what they report anyway. There's a lot I don't want in my world. They've their agenda, I've mine.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Lisa, are you back home from France by now? It feels good to hear from you here after such a long time. I hope that Emily and her hubby are doing fine. I tried to contact you while you stayed with your daughter in France in vain. My email message also remained unresponded. Now, I understand why the communication between us was lost suddenly. I am not frequently on this site as I used to be when you were regular here too. Lisa, I miss your wonderful
blogs.
Take Care, dear Lisa. Be safe.

LookLook....I looked up the music of your post and found this. Bhalo Lage - Moheener Ghoraguli II ভালোবাসি জ্যোৎস্নায় কাশবনে ছুটতে (Lyrics). It is called the World of Lyrics. Very nice music. Loved the poetry as well.

Shartaun, You have found another famous song sung by this music group. ভালোবাসি জ্যোৎস্নায় কাশবনে ছুটতে can be translated in English as follows:
" Love to run around in Kashbon in the moonlight." Kash is a wildflower that grows on the river banks of our country. The word কাশবনে means in English, "In the Kash flower garden."
কাশফুল /noun/ catkin; a flowering spike of trees such as willow and hazel.
Google the under-noted link to listen to the song of the above blog.
