THE VICTORIOUS

Going to do some bragging here.

As most know, we are trivia players. Trivia meaning playing a game where general knowledge questions are asked, and the ones with the most knowledge win. Not to be confused with playing a game of "little known facts " , which are actually trivia -L .
Things like " Who wrote ( pick one ) famous novel " " Who did the English whip the tar out of at the battle of Culloden ? " " What is the longest river in the US ?" and so forth.

We have found live games around Chattanooga, hosted by a national trivia company and taking place in various restaurants around town. I highly recommend you play some night , if you can find a game in your city.

We have played 3 times now, and last night we beat 13 other teams ( mostly with 3 to 8 players ) and won a $ 25 gift card to the restaurant.
We also entered in to the national games, with the most point holders, totally over the year, competing for 100 grand nationally, with the finals in New Orleans. We don't dream that big , however.

You create a team name and we are " Avenge Hastings, The Anti-Frog Society ".
Other teams have funny or odd names, which seems to be the norm.
We have played against " I am only here to establish an alibi ". " The Periodic Table Dancers " " I'm Bob and I am addicted to trivia ".

We have noted a few characteristics of the players. The table of older people usually kick ass. They came in 2nd last night. The younger players rush up with their written answers if the category is movies, netflix, current bands or pop culture, but are still debating anything pre 1995 long after I have taken our answer to the host.
It all depends if the questions are in our wheelhouse how we do. Obviously using any electronic aids are forbidden. It's all out of your head, so don't ask us what the bass player for Black-eyed Peas' brother does for a living. You can ask us under what President the USS Cole was attacked, or what the Zaire River used to be called.
Both of the last were questions last night.

At any rate, while I have sprained my arm, patting myself on the back, Liszt is taking his victory more in stride, with his usual humility, using it to not make anyone jealous of how awesome he is at trivia.

The company, challenge trivia , provides two hints on questions on FB, which you can look up , about 30 min before the game. That helped.

Lest you think our team name is a little flippant, that seems to be the goal. Another team called itself "Shake, Rattle, and Roll: the Michael J. Fox Story."

The last question, which put us over the top, was rather hard. I'll give it to you here and give the answer later on in the day:

Put the following events in chronological order, oldest to most recent: 1) US invasion of Iraq begins (not the First Gulf War) 2) the bombing of the USS Cole 3) the death of Coretta Scott King 4) the Patriots win their first Super Bowl.

This game was held in a new BBQ restaurant in a trendy area of Chattanooga. You can get any cuisine you like in Chattanooga -- if you like BBQ, pizza, or Tex-Mex.

BTW, googling is not allowed.

I think it is great to find something to get out of the house and enjoy! On Friday evenings, we usually go out to eat with a group of folks who have booths in one of the shops where we do. Not as challenging as your outing however. LOL

The older I get, the less I care what people think of me, so the older I get, the more I enjoy life.

See if there is a game near you and take the group. The host asks a question. You have one song for your team to come up with the answer. You take your paper to the host, and he or she keeps score. There are the FB hints to help with 2 questions, some double point questions, and two bonus rounds.

You could have fun with your team name:
Joe's Bar and Grill
The Average Joes
Have a cuppa Joe
Joe Six Pack and the Cans.
Joe Schmoe and Smoothies.
Say it aint so, Joe

The food last night was really good, and we are not big BBQ fans, but they do have one of my favorites- fried catfish.

I like trivia as you can see by my everyday question here on SFF.
Chronological Order is the bombing of the USS Cole, the Patriots win their first Super Bowl, US invasion of Iraq begins, the death of Coretta Scott King.

Tough one and it took a lot of figuring.

Oh, that's bad, but I like it. Congrats btw.

It explains why you and Maisie always seem to operate as a team despite your insistence that you never even read each other's blogs before you post them......and your constant competitive attitude.......relentless spewing of surface information.......your pugilistic attitude.........LOL....

Yup- you did spin it into something sinister.
And I have some other breaking news. We eat dinner together !!!!!!!
We go shopping in the same car !!!!!!!
We TALK to each other !!!!!!!!
We play trivia together !!!!!
We have the occasional game of Scrabble ( he usually wins )
Oh the horror !!!!!!.

One thing we don't do together is blogs. I write mine in the am, he is a night owl.
Believe or not Lulu, each one is capable of thought without the other. I know you don't think women can make a move without a man, but, sadly, I write my own.

Thanks. One thing we noticed- we have played in three different locations. The host can make all the difference. The game a week ago was terrible. The host mumbled a bit, and I heard "three letters " in the question as " Greek letters ". I had to walk up front to get clarification on other questions as well. The scores there were not very high for the whole joint, so that tells me the questions were bad.
The other thing we learned is some parts of the city aint too bright.

BigBlock had it right for the chronology question. The events were from a 6-year span, so it was a tough question. Well done!
