I would hope no one needs your interpretation of Randa Jarrar...

People open their mouth all the time and stick their foot in it....

"So I say, let them rant. Let them insult and let them make fools of themselves"

I get to handle complaints about saying "you folks" ...like who the heck do you mean... are "you folks"..

well let me ask you... Who the heck are "them"?

What Randa Jarrar said... said nothing about Barbara Bush or Liberals or Conservatives..
But said a whole heck of a lot about Randa Jarrar. But said NOTHING about "them"

An old quote comes to mind.... "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." And another, more recent one, "When they take the low road, we will take the high road."
Both apply in this instance.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Which brings in another old saying, "Two wrongs do not make a right."
Or just because they do it, doesn't mean we have to do it also.

Ok, enough of the old adages..... here was my first reaction, and subsequent opinion.
At first, my emotions hit and I was seeing red. How dare she? If a conservative said that about a beloved liberal, they would storm the fort. Protests, boycotts, probably even riots..... so let's do that to her! Ok, that's how I felt for a few moments.
Then common sense and logic prevailed. Thus the old sayings that are so true. She had the right to say what she did. Perhaps it wasn't in good taste or etiquette, but still her right and yes, I will defend that right..... not her for saying it, but her right to say it.
She will have to live with the consequences of her 15 minutes of fame or notoriety whatever they may be. But I do hope there is no organized conservative actions against her for her words.

Yep, I knew that...... but the source and actions do not invalidate the spirit of the words.

Sorry Maisie, but you don't get to pick and choose when freedom of speech applies.......Very recently, you and your hubby and other Right wingers viciously attacked me for posting comments that satirized your version of reality.......A virtual storm of fragile little snowflakes defending their "right" not to be offended................

Hmmmm! I didn't know anything about Barbara Bush other than what she publicly displayed. I know absolutely nothing about Randa Jarrar, I don't think I've ever seen her name in print before because I don't follow radicals of any kind. My argument with what she said is that she waited until the woman she was trashing was dead and couldn't defend herself. That says more about the woman who made the comment than about the target.

I see, so when you respond to speech you find offensive by attempting to shut it down, you call it tolerance and inclusion.........

I am a Liberal Democrat but Barbara Bush was awesome. The Katrina situation was definitely one of her "Let them eat cake" Moments, Nevertheless, she had many valid points. Many of the folks who got stuck at the Astrodome did not have the resources to get out. I read about some folks relocating to better jobs and better schools than the ones they lost in Katrina so it did "work out very well for them." She also expressed concerned about so many Katrina refuges settling in Houston. I wonder how Greenbrier County, West Virginia would fare if we got slammed with so many refuges. The County lacks the resources to take care of so many and help them start over.

I don't need to read or hear that much to know they way a person thinks..

Randa Jarrar.. is on my list.. don't need to know anymore about her......

I don't care what she it.....On my list of distasteful people she comes in second to trump.

Now about the "them" issue... who the heck is them?

I don't see people protesting or marching in favor of Randa Jarrar....Where are "them"?

Now if you said..."So I say, let HER rant. Let HER insult and let HER make a fool of Herself....."
then I would be in total agreement..
You see... it only takes changing one word.. to know how a person thinks.

Maisle, I too disagree 'We" (as Conservatives or Libertarians or Liberals) should let this one go. Its high time to push back. OK so she didn't like the Bushes, I can't stand the Obamas or Clintons. But as a representative of the school, and on company time (i assume) she had no business putting this out 'there'. The real offense to me is "you can't fire me" and "I make $100K [cause I'm worth it"]. I say, precedent says fire the bitch. Is this what 'student loans' are supposed to support? Its time to push back. Seen what Jordan Peterson in Canada is up against? Wanna wait until its illegal to protest these insolent insults? Want the political firestorm instigators to lead the praise/worship? Maybe mine a weak argument, but I feel these verbal attacks are preceding violent attacks intended as political advantage. P Trumps tweets are agreeably annoying, BUT they are personally directed back at people trying to push him off the stage. I have to think personally pushing back personally is courageous retort regardless what the rest of us think

Maybe this fits in this case, maybe it doesn't..

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

I disagree, conservatives are not better than this.

Depends on the liberal.

I have views that would offend both liberals and conservatives, so I don't really see a lot of difference between how the two behave in this regard.
