FRUITS IN HEALTHY DIET.

Welcome to all my readers. Today, I've started a series of blogs on an essential Nutrient for our health, which is " Fruits". Eating fruit provides health benefits — people who eat more fruits and vegetables as part of an overall healthy diet, are likely to have a reduced risk of some chronic diseases. Fruits provide nutrients vital for health and maintenance of your body.
Today my first introduction is upon the fruits grown and cultivated in my country, Mauritius. As a tropical country, a very fertile island, where there are only two seasons, Summer and Winter. Both adequate for agriculture. Rain is in abundance, mostly sunny all year round, without any severe drought too. Hence, we have lots of seasonal fruits and vegetables all the time.

Tropical Fruits grown here in alphabetical order are: Avocados, Annonas/Attes, Bananas, Breadfruit, Bergamots, Carambolas/Starfruits, Coconuts, Coronsoles, Eggfruits, Guavas, Grenades, Grenadines, Grapefruits, Jamblons, Jackfruits, Litchis, Longans, Lemons, Mangoes, Mandarins, Melons, Mulberries, Oranges, olives, Pineapples, Passion fruits, Pomegranate, sugar-apple/Attes, Raspberries, Strawberries, Syzygium fruits.
Health Benefits of eating a diet rich in vegetables and fruits, is a part of an
overall healthy diet and may reduce risk for heart disease, including heart and other desease too.

My blog of today is on: Litchis, mangoes and Grenades, consecutively, with a quick note on each.

1~ LITCHIS / LITCHEES.
It is a delicious and juicy fruit, sweet and nutritious, these berries bring cooling effect on the human body to beat the summer heat. Fresh lytchee arils or flesh should be enjoyed all alone without any additions. Its slices can be a great addition to fruit salads and dressings. Lychee juice can be a refreshing drink during summer season and can be used in jellies, jams, sorbet, sauces, syrups, and as decorations too. It has all the principle Vitamins, Minerals and Electrolytes as nutrients.

2~ MANGOES.
Mango comes in different shapes and sizes depending upon
Cultivar types. Internally, its flesh is juice, orange-yellow
Or some reddish In color when RIpen. Its flavor is pleasant and rich and in pre-biotic dietary fiber, minerals, potassium and low sodium and has an antioxidant compound. A high-quality mango fruit should feature no or very Less Fiber

Content and minimal sour taste.. According to new research study, mango fruit

has been found to protect

Against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers.

Mango fruit can be enjoyed all alone without any additions

Fresh mango cubes are a great addition to fruit salads

Mango juice with ice cubes is a popular, delicious drink.

Mango fruit juice blended with milk as "mango-milk shake." Mango fruit is also used to prepare jam, jelly, ice cream and in candy industries, while the green
One can be pickled, make chutney and In other food preparation.
Mangoes In my garden are grafted so they are really big one, when matured and ripen, one may weighs from 500 gm to 700 gm.

3- POMEGRANATE.

Pomegranate fruit is one of the most popular, nutritionally rich

fruit with unique flavor, taste, and heath promoting characteristics.

Along with sub-arctic pigmented berries and some tropical exotics

such as mango, it too has novel qualities of functional foods, often

Called as “super fruits.” Completely grown-up tree bears numerous spherical, bright red, purple, or orange-yellow colored fruits depending on the cultivar types. Each fruit measures about 6-10 cm in diameter and weighs about 200 gm. Its tough outer skin (rind) features leathery texture. Interior of the fruit is separated by white, thin, spongy, membranous, bitter tissue into discreet compartments. Such sections, packed as sacs, filled WIth tiny edible sweet, juicy, pink pulp encasing around a single, angular, soft or hard (in case of over mature fruits) seed. It contains no cholesterol or saturated fats. It is a good source of Soluble and insoluble dietary fibers for a smooth digestion and bowel movements, for weight reduction and cholesterol controlling programs and rich in Vit C. Regular inclusion of fruits in the diets boosts immunity, improves circulation, and offers protection from cancers, effective against prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), diabetes, and lymphoma.

Further more, it is an also good source of many vital B-complex groups of vitamins such as pantothenic acid (vitamin B-5), folates, pyridoxine and vitamin K, and Minerals like calcium, copper, potassium, and manganese. These are the 3 types of fruits, I have chosen for this time, the series will continue in my next blog shortly.
Thanks for your reading, I hope having provided some good info.
Lisa.

Hi Beth,
Mine is also a tropical country and I know most of the fruits you listed.
I haven't eaten pomegranate since I was young, in my native town. We had a tree in our back yard.
Thanks for remind us the importance of fruits in our diet.

Thank you for this blog. I have increased my knowledge of fruits. Some of the fruits you listed I had never hear of so I went to researching them on the web.

My constant goal in all of my food supply is to stay as close to the soil as possible and away from food raised with chemicals.

I am envious of where you live. You have much better temperatures and soil than where I live.

Hi Lisa: I eat fresh fruit mixed in with yogurt every morning, but usually just strawberries, bananas, green grapes, and a few other berries when they're in season. I also eat watermelon by itself every day. I read somewhere that there's something in watermelon that helps you lose weight, and also if you mix just a few nuts in with your fruit and yogurt you can actually lose weight too.

Here we do export fruits and flowers to Europe as well, Specially the seasonal fruits, such as Pineapples, and Litchis as well, when in season and all are controlled here too. Glad that you enjoy many kinds of fruits available in your country, very good for your health too. Hope you'll also enjoy my next blog, a continuation on other kind of fruits as well. Good to know about them even if not grown in every country.
Thanks again my dear, hoping to read from you soon.

Hi Gasi,

Welcome back to my significant blog again Gasi, happy to read from you again, knowing that this blog has pleased you as much as the other readers. As I know that many fruits I've mentioned on this blog of mine, are not well known to many, of course I won't blame them as such, cause many fruits do not grow in all regions due to the different climates too.

Am glad to have introduced some fruits which are not well known to you, hope you have researched them on the web and had got good ideas about them.
Beware, there will be many more coming on my next blog and future too, so you'll have a very good knowledge about them as well. Here we do take care too that our products are not other than the soil grown type also. As you know my island is a very fertile land and with such good climate too, fruits and vegs grow very well all year round.

Don't be that envious of my small country, it welcomes everyone at any time, all year round too.
Thanks for your good feelings and your appreciation for my posts, Hope to read from you again on my next one as there will be many more.
Wishing you and family, a very best weekend.
Kind regards,
Lisa.
