" Watermelons and it's health benefits "

Dear Readers, today my blog is on Watermelon, which most of us like. Hahaha!!.

Despite popular belief that watermelon is made up of only water and sugar, But Watermelon is actually considered a nutrient dense food, a food that provides a high amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for a low amount of calories.

Watermelons have become synonymous with summer and picnics, and for good reason. Their refreshing quality and sweet taste help to combat the heat and also provide a guilt-free, low maintenance dessert for and adults alike to enjoy.

Along with cantaloupe and honeydew, watermelons are a member of the botanical family Cucurbitaceae. There are five common types of watermelon: seeded, seedless, mini (also known as personal), yellow and orange.
It contains: Low calories, carbohydrate, vitamin A, calcium,92% water,

Watermelon also contains thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, choline, lycopene and betaine. Watermelon contains more lycopene than any other fruit or vegetable.

Hi Lisa: Great blog and loved all those pics. In the last pic, I wonder how they did that? I eat watermelon every day and buy them all year even though in the Winter they cost a small fortune here in Canada. I had read that the lycopene helps you lose weight, but of course you have to exercise and watch what else you eat.

The problem with watermelon is that I can't seem to figure out how to choose a good one. I've tried knocking on them and listening for a sound, but they all sound the same to me. If I get a bad one, I lug it back to the store and exchange it, and the stores don't seem to mind at all.

Bijou my dear friend,

How pleased I am reading from you again on my blog. I can't find the words to thank you for your usual visit and delightful comments too.
Thank you also for appreciating so much the photos, I have carefully chosen them with the aim of pleasing my readers and my efforts have paid.
Am so happy that you like watermelon as I do. It's so refreshing Bijou and I can eat then all day round really. Here on my country I have the help of the traders in choosing the very good ones, very red inside and sweet too. Otherwise I wouldn't just like you.

Any way I know you have very good ones there too, when I was in Canada, I ate very sweet watermelons too. Enjoy then Bijou.
All my best wishes to you, till I read from you again.
Bisous from
Lisa.

Hi again Lisa: Just looking at that top pic. I remember watermelons looking like that when I was a child, but they don't look that way anymore. We haven't had watermelons with black seeds in them for many years now in Canada. They call them 'seedless' now, but they still have tiny white seeds in them. I think the agriculture scientists took out the seeds from all our fruit here.

Bijou dear,

You are most welcome again. I admire your interest in my blog, your frequent visits and comments too, thank you gratefully for this. I enjoy very much your presence on my blogs and so pleased to read from you Bijou.

Yes, I know there are different types of melons now Bijou but the one with black seed are the sweetest and original ones, according to me. Anyhow there may be some other types too, once they are beneficial for our health, there's no problem Bijou.

Happy to have read from you again Bijou, thank you my dear, I warmly wish you all my very best.
Bisous from your friend,
Lisa.
