NATIVES OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA AND THEIR CULTURAL DIVERSITIES

Following my previous blog on " Birds of Paradise", which are found mainly in Papua New Guinea, I have today uploaded a blog in brief and a few pics on the Culture and Tradition of the Natives of Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea, is an Oceanian country that occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea, a region of the southwestern pacific ocean. Its capital is Port Moresby.
Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. 848 languages are listed for the country. Most of the population of over 7 million people live in customary communities, which are as diverse as the languages. It is also one of the most rural, as only 18 per cent of its people live in urban centers. The country is one of the world's least explored, culturally and geographically, and many undiscovered species of plants and animals are thought to exist in the interior. At the local level, the majority of the population still live in strong customary societies. These societies and clans are explicitly acknowledged within the nation's constitutional framework. Tok Pisin is a symbol of national identity and a preferred means of communication. Hiri Motu, is a trade language.

People of the highlands engage in colorful local rituals that are called "sing sings". They paint themselves and dress up with the feathers of The Birds of Paradise, pearls, animal skins, colorful beads and sea shells, cassowaries are used also, their bare quills carved into nose-pins and ear-rings, their leg-bones fashioned into implements and their sharp claws fitted to arrow-tips.
In New Guinea the birds of paradise were and again are still the chief targets. The feathers of these beautiful birds are used in ceremonial headdresses, to represent birds, trees or mountain spirits. Sometimes an important event, such as a legendary battle, is enacted at such a musical festival.

I hope my brief story and the related pics would please you.
Happy viewing.
Lisa.

Maisie,

Welcome to my blog, hadn't read from you for quite sometime. Thanks for passing by leaving your nice comments. But as these are the real natives of Papua New Guinea, many others may have copied their styles to show themselves too. But the natives on here have the real head-dresses made of the real beautiful feathers of their own birds.
Glad my reading from you.
My regards.
Lisa.

Roxy,

Glad reading from you again, thanks for your visit and you pleasant comments. It's true that these headdresses are nicely colorful and real too. I guess they may be heavy but the natives there must be used to them. Thanks also for appreciating my blog Roxy, hope reading from you again as usual
My best wishes to you,
Lisa.

Excellent blog. I have not been able to view the photos but will return later. This has always been a fascinating region of the Pacific and I believe they were still having a rare head hunt during the 60's. Also an area where WW II raged. Please keep blogging. Many of us enjoy your educational views! Have a good evening.

I've enjoyed this interesting reading, Beth. However, I think It's amazing that there are still primitive cultures in our world.
Thanks for your cultural blog.

Glumo my dear,

How great is my pleasure reading from you again as usual. I thank you so much for your visit and for your wonderful comments also.
Yes Glumo, these are really wonders to know about, I wish they never change their culture too, for our children and great grand kids to learn and know the difference of culture in our world too. This will widen their knowledge scope as well. Thanks for your kind appreciation of my blogs. Am so glad for it.
I wish you all my best and hope reading from you always with the same great pleasure.

Some of the bright colors and patterns they use are similar to those used by the indigenous people of Mexico.

Spiritwoman,

You are warmly welcome to my blog as usual, thanks for your visit and for your nice comments as well. The patterns of these indigenous may look somewhat the same in Mexico but as you see on the pics on here, these are the original patterns of Papua New Guinea . These are their cultural outfit for ceremonial occasions but they look great really. I always like the folkloric outfit of any country, they are so colorful and self style also.
Thanks again Spiritwoman, hope reading from you again, have a lovely weekend,
Lisa.

Informativ and colorful how you presented the culture of your country - both narrative and pictures.

Tradition is a legacy we have to keep up for our descendants.

Thank you!

Evergreen hi,

Thank you so much for passing by leaving your nice comments, I appreciate them very much. But dear Evergreen, it is not of my country, I wanted to post about the culture and tradition of PAPUA NEW GUINEA, in relation to my previous blog on THE BIRDS OF PARADISE, whose beautiful feathers are used in ceremonial feasts in that country, therefore I have posted some pics of people of Papua New Guinea, to show how they use these feathers. Myself, I am from the ISLAND OF MAURITIUS, which is quite different from theirs.
If you scroll down my blogs, you'll see the blogs on my country MAURITIUS. Plz, do so to have an idea of mine.
Thank you so much for your appreciation of my blog Evergreen, Hope reading from you again, I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Regards,
Lisa. ( From MAURITIUS)

Lulu my dear,

How great is my pleasure reading from you again on my blog. Your description is so perfect and it makes me illusion the whole scenery even, as I have traveled in many African countries and have also witnessed these traditional dances too.

Thank you so much Lulu for sharing this experience of yours with us on here. I appreciate it so much too. I haven't been to Papua Guinea myself, so I have just seen their rituals on videos only. Thank you again Lulu, hope reading from you again.
Meanwhile have a wonderful weekend.
My best regards to you too.
Lisa.
