A MELODIC TRIBUTE TO MY .......

Sorry, I've posted this blog yesterday but I don't know why it had disappeared with all its nice comments. So I've just re-posted it now, I hope you would kindly re-post your comments on it. Thanks.
*********

With the reminiscence of the periods during which our ancestors came here, on my Island Mauritius, to drudge, to toil and struggled under the harsh conditions, to make our country, what it is today, I have posted this blog in memory of all those who came from different parts of the world, centuries ago. They were snatched from their families and brought on my Island by force, by capture, by trade and through slavery. They were strong, healthy and skilled in different field of work.

The Explorers, the Conquerors, the Rulers, the distinguished Settlers of high class, who were mainly Dutch, French and British, had occupied, ruled, settled and developed my Island by the hard work of our ancestors. The latter under those foreign sovereignty, had developed our virgin Island and created our nation, a Rainbow nation, a multi-cultured, a multi-lingual and multi-religion nation, A learnt and Peaceful Nation.

Our ancestors had in turn, transmitted, their knowledge,
their harmonious behaviors, their faiths and their mutual respects
consequently unto their following generations, over and over until presently ours. We are luckier than them, in terms of higher education and facilities, in terms of independence and in terms of our Constitutional Rights and Freedom for everyone. Through history, we have learnt about the hardship and suffering which our ancestors had experienced and survived and for which, we are really sad but so grateful for all their devotion and amalgamation.

When we look around admiring the beauty of their deeds, remembering their endurance and submission from the start and throughout, we are really proud of them and of our country. We thank each and everyone of them for the beautiful and peaceful country they have left behind for us to enjoy. Following, are the lyrics of a symbolic and evocative melodious song, called " Island in the sun", by Harry Belafonte, which you can watch on U..tube. I have also posted a few photos of my Island, Mauritius,
I hope this blog, the song and the photos would please you.
Thank you for your read and your views.
Sincerely,
Lisa.

The lyrics of the song: " ISLAND IN THE SUN ".

This is my island in the sun
Where my people have toiled since time begun.
I may sail on many a sea,
Her shores will always be home to me,
" Oh island in the sun
Willed to me by my fathers hands
All my days I will sing in praise
Of your forest, waters your shining sand ".

As morning breaks, the heaven on high,
They lift their heavy load to the sky,
Sun comes down with a burning glow
Mingles their sweat with earth below.

I've seen women on bent knees,
Cutting cane for their families,
I've seen men at the waterside
Casting nets at the surging tides.
" Oh island in the sun ................ "

At the time I never miss
The gay colored skirts as they turn and twist,
Then we always with our guitars
Underneath it voice, be a thousand smiles.

I pray the day will never come
When I can't awake to the sound of drum
Never let me miss the carnival
With calypso songs philosophical.
Oh island in the sun,
Willed to me by my fathers hands
All my days, I will sing in praise
Of your forests, waters, your shining sand.
Of your forests, waters, your shining sand

Hi Lisa: That island looks like paradise. I've read so many books about the horrors of slavery and it's hard to believe something that evil was allowed in several countries. The slaves were treated like livestock, bought and worked to death, r*ped, torn from their families. For centuries they worked from morning to night and didn't get paid, so they didn't have any money or property to pass down to their families when they died. I have been an advocate of financial restitution from the government for every single person with even a drop of black blood in their body. This would at least make up for the financial loss to some extent, but the other atrocities of slavery are our shameful history here in North America too.

Bijou, hi dear,

Always happy reading from you on my blogs. Thanks for your meaningful comments. It's so true how all those slaves in every country where they were meant to work, it had been such a suffering for all of them. That's how it was, according to history.
Thank you for your participation in acknowledging that sad eventual period, Bijou. Yet, my dear friend, even nowadays, in other countries, there is still slavery going on.
Thank you again, dear, I wish you and your family, a fine day.
Lisa.

First of all, your photos are stunning. I am jealous because you have such a beautiful place to live while I am stuck here in Florida. Your multi-cultural heritage is certainly unique.

I'd bet you money most Americans could not find Mauritius on a world map if their lives depended on it. Now that I think about it, I remember someone posting that about a third of Americans could not find the United States on a world map. We are raising a generation of stupid people here.

Do you ever visit Madagascar? I have seen some specials on educational television which explored the diverse animal life there.

God Save America !!

Fossil hi,

Sorry, I had to do the same as I've mentioned just above, in my responce to Roxy, that is to copy and paste your pleasant comments on the previous post of this blog which had disappeared.

Your wonderful comments has surely pleased me, Fossil, and that's why I wanted by any means, to thank you for them and for your visit as well. Your comments have given me a smile and Yes, I have visited Madagascar several times before. It has lots of forest animal also but the country there has yet to be developed. In a few towns and its capital there, life is ok but otherwise elsewhere is still undeveloped.
I wish you and your family, a joyous weekend, Fossil.
Kind regards,
Lisa.
