THE ONLY RARE WHITE GIRAFFE .....

The only rare white giraffe has been spotted roaming around in Tarangire National park of Tanzania. Experts have photographed her but fearing she could become a potential target for poachers.
Omo is her name, given to her by the local lodge guide there. Omo is Leucistic, meaning many of the skin cells are incapable of making a pigment. Some are, so she is white, with red or blue eyes, as a true albino would be. But she is not albino. She is the only white giraffe currently known worldwide.

She appears to get along with the other giraffes, she has always been seen with a large group of normally colored giraffe, they don't seem to mind her different coloring. Her unique color makes her unique worldwide, a real target for poachers in the African park. Omo is now 15 months old. She survived her first year as a small calf, which is the most dangerous time for a young giraffe due to lion, leopard and hyena preying on them when very young. Her chances of surviving to adulthood are good but adult giraffes are regularly poached for bush meat, and her coloration might make her a target eventually.

All the partners working on giraffe conservation and anti-poaching to help give Omo and her relatives a better chance of survival. Hoping that she lives a long life and that someday she'll have calves of her own.
I hope this info has pleased you. Below are some pictures of Omo, in that park.
Thanks for your read and views.
Sincerely,
Lisa.

LadyLuck, hi dear,

Thank you for your visit and you nice comments. Am so happy reading you again on my blog. Thank you for your appreciation of the photos too. This is the first time a white giraffe is seen alive, enjoying the environment of that National park in Tanzania, she is the only one, lady. It's so rare to find one as such. What am also afraid of, it's the lots of poachers in Africa. The skin of this white giraffe will temp them to kill it by any means because of its price mainly.
I hope the conservation society will do their best to protect this beautiful giraffe. It's like a piece of diamond among the herds.
Thank you again dear Lady. I wish you a very pleasant day.
Lisa.

Puzzles my dear Lady, GM to you,

Great is my joy as usual, reading from you on my blogs. Your participation is well appreciated as well as your nice comments, for which I warmly thank you. I personally, do not do Face Book, Puzzles but I had read the story of this white giraffe since last week, so I wanted to relate it to my readers on here, moreover because I was really stunned by it's abnormality as well. I Hope she won't be the prey of these poachers in Africa, as she is well known now. I wish her a long life too.
Thanks again Puzzles, I always value your input on my blogs.
Enjoy your day dear, may it be a pleasant one.
Lisa.

Ranger g/d to you,

Thank you for your thoughtful comments on this blog of mine. I appreciate your opinion but in Africa, poaches are the worst heartless people. I've seen so many atrocities they do against these animals, in several african countries I've so far visited. It was really a pity to see those cadavers inert in the forest.
Even in the tourist shops during that time, all types of animals were killed, then stuffed and sold, at the view and knowledge of all. It was really a great pity seeing those. Yet, it was a big business for them. Since some years now, I've heard that trade became prohibited. But poachers are still doing their hidden business and am so afraid for this white giraffe really.
Thanks once more Tom, and I wish you a nice day.
LISA, ( not Tina!!)

Mary Ann dear, gm to you,

Great is my pleasure for your visit and you wonderful comments on my above post. Thank you so much May Ann. Omo, the white giraffe, is surely a wonder for the scientists, who are trying to know why she became white though she is not albino as they said. It's just a matter of her nature, a rare type really. Thank you for your appreciation Mary Ann. I wish you a pleasant weekend.
Warm regards,
Lisa.

What beautiful creatures Giraffes are, and Omo looks like a mythical figure with that brown mane. Poor animals having to worry about weather, finding food, other animals, and to top it off there are all the disgusting poachers. Nice blog Lisa.

Bijou my dear friend, hello,

You are so right in your above comments which I appreciate so much, as well as your usual visit, dear. Yes, Bijou, Omo, is like a mystical figure among the herd and they do accept her also.
Thank you for appreciating this blog of mine. We all admire this particular giraffe due to its oddity among the others. I wish Omo to have a long life and to be safe from those poachers. Thanks again for your love for animals, just as I do, dear. I wish you a wonderful weekend with all of yours.
Lisa.
