The problem with Obama Care is that it didn't go far enough - it is still working with the insurance companies that all about business. We need the single payer system that the rest of the western nations have.

We are still putting the blame everywhere except on the costs of health care itself. $10,000.00 a day to stay at a hospital is a little ridiculous, don't you think? I could have gone on a beautiful vacation with that kind of money and had better food and service. $82,000.00 dollars for an 8 day stay in a hospital is rather costly. Even my Mom's nursing home bill was only $5,500.00 a month and she was in one of the top ten homes in the whole US. The more we are required to have insurance, the higher the prices go up. Adding more government programs is not the solution to the problem, it just adds to the problem.

That's exactly right!! The greedy who are taking advantage in any way they can, not going to argue with you there.

So what's the government going to do about it? Absolutely nothing!

You make some pretty good points here...... a form of "Medicare" for younger folks that cover certain things, and they pay the copays or carry a supplemental insurance like seniors do. Would they also pay a Medicare fee like we do? And if they have full coverage through employment, that would just about cover everything for them, and maybe bring down the cost of that insurance too.
Of course, there would still be those who need Medicaid and Medicaid usually covers everything.
I have always thought that insurance shopping across state lines is a great idea, just like we can for car and home insurance. It should also cut the cost of that insurance because the insurance companies won't need a different policy for every state, and there would be more competition.
And definitely torte reform! These days if a doctor looks at a patient cross-eyed, it seems they get sued and there is always a lawyer ready to take on the case...... just look at the TV advertisements!
It's a complicated situation, made into a more complicated mess by a failing Obamacare, so the solutions will not be simple, and they are not going to please everyone.

The Fraser Institute is a Far Right Corporate propaganda machine. It is the most political of all non-profit groups in Canada. It is well known in Canada for making outlandish claims. It has backed the Tobacco and Mining industries with wildly skewed statistics.....It is not a reputable source.

You have posted this same article in the past and I have refuted the source, as I have refuted your many heavily biased and fake-news sources. How do you find this stuff?

Most of us Canadians and every other country who has single-payer systems do not resent contributing to the health care of other Canadians. We are happy that the man in Alberta can get his heart surgery or the child in Montreal with Leukemia or asthma can receive the care and medications they need to be healthy in spite of how much their family can afford. We all benefit from everyone being able to have regular doctor visits and access to whatever specialists are needed for preventative health care. Keeping Canadians healthy instead of just curing them when they get ill.

The US statistics on longevity, death rate of birth mothers and babies.....etc.
compared to countries with single-payer illustrate that it leads to a healthier over-all society.

A while ago I wrote a blog relating my experience with the Canadian healthcare system. I will add that those who are in serious and immediate need of care are served immediately. Yes, we usually wait awhile for a hip or knee replacement.

Given my husband's heart issues and bypass surgery, and a serious condition I had six years ago, I have only very positive things to say about our health care.

We all pay for our health system is different ways depending on the province in which you live.

For example, in British Columbia if you earn $24,000. or less you pay nothing. If a person earns $42,000. or more they pay $75. per month = $900. for the year.
In Ontario the payment is charged on your yearly income tax. If you earn $20,000. or less you pay nothing. If a person earns $200,600. or more they pay $900. for the year.

Frankly, I don't think those in the upper ranges of the grid are paying enough by a long shot.

All of this information is easily available by g**gling.

Why would you reply to my comment that the Fraser Institute is a propaganda machine by posting more of their crap?.....Do you seriously think that it's going to alter my own investigation into their legitimacy?......You certainly have a propensity for fake news.

i'm not surprised that you could find some Google source to agree with you. Sure there are people who don't have regular doctors, but that's because they choose not to......We're not forced to ........Some healthy young adults choose not to have health insurance. There will always be room for improvement and people who complain. I can usually get in to see a doctor the same day if I feel it's urgent,
or the next day......very rarely have I waited longer. The only time I went to the emergency room, a Sunday afternoon, there were several bleeding and limping rugby players from opposing teams moaning in the waiting room......LOL.

Believe me, healthcare for everyone still isn't going to be perfect, but it will be a huge relief.

Anything coming out of the Fraser Institute should be scrutinized closely.
They tend to shade their data to fit their ideology.

Here's my latest medical experience with Canadian commie-care.

I detected a hernia on my lower abdomen last September, and my GP confirmed it.

It took until December to see a specialist.
I wasn't in any pain, and it wasn't getting much worse.
My worrying about was worse than the condition.

I got a surgery date for February 1st.
It all went well, and treatment in the hospital was terrific.

Would I have liked to get done faster?
Yes.

Would faster treatment made any difference in my case?
I doubt it very much.

The worse thing about it was having to wait six weeks post-op to get back to weight training.

As I have stated before, we have it pretty good up here compared to the US, but western European countries do much better.

I wish Canadians compared us to France or Germany rather than the US.

Sure Canadians sound "boosterish: to you, but if we dare to scoff at American Exceptionalism, the Shining City on the Hill, the assumptions that America is best at everything, we are called Anti-American as if it's a venal sin........
Canada has a lot of immigrants from all over the World..........and also accepts refugees............Of course the US has a more people......but so do other countries who make social medicine work.........dozens of countries........

"An aside: you Canadians certainly spend a lot of time praising yourselves. It gets a little annoying, and it suggests ultimately that you have a huge inferiority complex as a nation. If an American is so constantly boosterish, he is considered a jingo and a boor. Okay, aside ended."

Does American jingoism suggest ultimately that Americans have a huge inferiority complex? Do you consider the America boosters on this site boors every time they Rah Rah Rah?.....USA,USA, USA, USA.......
