are guns leading cause of death??? so to use the logic? posted here that guns should be banned cuz they kill folks. using the stats listed. we should ban tobacco,should have been lomh ago we should ban booze we should bad any type medical care we should ban vehicles, will be pizzed we should bann suicide then of course bann guns, lowest % of all listed. i also read there were 585 deaths by lawn mowers. 250 deaths falling down stairs 5 deaths by fridges falling over serious fact here more deaths by bites , insect an snake bites than guns LOGIC................ NAW . To answer your points one at a time. 1. The reason you hear so much about gun deaths is because there are so many of them. In fact at 11,000 murders per year there are 30 murders carried out with guns EVERY DAY in the USA - the fact is that you actually only hear about a very small fraction of them. If you add in the 25,000 suicides each year that makes almost 100 people dying each day from guns. At that daily rate I don't think any demonisation is necessary. I have still to hear you, or anyone else, answer the points I made above -to whit '' Please make the case for the benefits bestowed on society by the widespread, barely regulated ownership of guns which does not rely on the single argument that 'We need guns because the bad guys have guns'. Please demonstrate that there are such benefits which justify the appalling toll in wasted lives from gun ownership compared to EVERY OTHER developed western democracy when calculated on a per capita basis. 2. As regards your second point - it is somewhat disingenuous to seek to elicit a cheap laugh by the application of a reductio ad absurdum argument with regard to such a serious topic.

Wondering how many living in the UK has visited the Cambridge American Cemetery where over 9,000 American Solders are buried which were killed to give them freedom as well as preventing the UK from speaking German!! This was accomplished for them by soldiers carry guns and as one US Army Chief of Staff said, "we only ask for enough land to bury our dead". Bond obviously does not understand how much danger is posed in the US by an out of control government. The only reason Obama has not set up death camps, put opponents into max security prisons is because he knows he faces an armed populace. It's only gun ownership that keeps America from becoming another Stalinist dictatorship. Let us never forget that the first thing Stalin did upon becoming Secretary General of the Communist Party in 1922 (or thereabouts) was to ban the private possession of firearms.
