How often do you need to hear "I love you"? Do you care if your partner tells you he/she loves you? How often do you need to hear it? I have been with both types and in some ways it's nice to hear often. However, too often makes it seem like they are just saying it to say it. Know what I mean? Elaine Shuel |

Thanks Bill. It's nice to hear "I love you", when you love the person back and you know it's genuine. Elaine Shuel

I can understand that way of thinking, Dan. Thanks for responding. Elaine Shuel

I couldn't ever be in a relationship with someone who told me he loved me several times a day, and/or expected the same in return......too ritualistic.......There are many ways to show love and reassurance and support......Three words repeated incessantly mean less than nothing........just habitual sound cluster......to be checked off the list.....floss teeth, pick up milk, say I love you.....booooring. That's sweet, Pat. If you both enjoy saying and hearing it, it's nice. It's only an issue if one person keeps saying it and the other really is fed up with hearing it. Elaine Shuel

Hello Shuel, it just occurred it may have seemed rude replying to another's post on your blog instead of responding directly. I hope no offense was taken, kind regards :- )

I think it is important if you are in a relationship. I tell my siblings I love them as I think it is important to let them know you care. In times such as we are having today where there is so much strife and bitterness it seems to me it is more and more important to let your loved ones know you love them. Too often you hear a husband or wife didn't tell each other they loved them before leaving for the day and something tragic happens. Be kind to one another and say you care by those three little words.

Too often you hear a husband or wife didn't tell each other they loved them before leaving for the day and something tragic happens. Be kind to one another and say you care by those three little words. On the other hand, there are definitely people who have trouble saying the words. Their actions show how much they love the other. I don't think I ever heard my parents saying "I love you" to each other and they didn't go around saying it to their kids. They were married close to 53 years and my dad loved my mom until his dying breath. My mother has not looked at another man since he died 15 years ago. We encouraged her to date but she simply isn't interested. I do believe that actions speak louder than words so hopefully a loved one knows without hearing those 3 little words. My mom sure did.
