DID YOU FIND IT HARD TO REACH A NEW DECADE OF LIFE?

This is either the best place or the worst place to bring this up. Age is just a number, at least that's what the young guys that hit on me always say. I always answer yes but mine is a larger number than theirs. Well 50 hit me hard and now that I turned 59 and being so close to 60 bothers me in some ways. How did you take reaching a new decade?

Oh, how well I remember the devastation when I turned 30! My close friends were a bit younger, and for some reason, I was overwhelmed with the number 30!
40 came and went with nary a thought..... as did 50, then 60. Now that I am 70, I don't think about the number so much as lamenting the things that I used to do so easily but struggle to do now.
There was an old joking statement..... "It takes me all night long to do what I used to do all night long." I know it was in reference to six, but I think it applies to all things in life as we get older.
Those who can accept and adapt their attitudes and abilities will no doubt age more gracefully...... but I haven't learned that art yet! I still bitch and moan about what I can't do!
So, Happy Birthday Elaine. You really ARE still young. Enjoy every day!

Yes, I agree, Elaine... each decade past 50! But as a good friend of mine recently told me (she's lost a few dear friend & family members lately), 'it's certainly better than the alternative"!! How true it is!

Age & $$ are just numbers unless they are Yours! For me turning 50 was cake. 60, not so much. Knees, Ankles, 'give a shit', all busted. In process of 2nd retirement now, what a pain in the ass! Both! First one at 60, second pays Oct 1st! Even with all the retirement practice I had, its still stressful. But not having to be somewhere is sure nice. It is scary! And not necessarily easier as ya go. Enjoy what you can Elaine and pick your friends carefully! tim

I know what you mean but when my parents were in their 70s, I told them and meant it, that's not old.

It started for me at 45.......the first tough one. For me the hump year is the toughest

maybe.... I just need five years to prepare myself

It seems. I fall down that White Rabbit's hole.
If I choose to miss happiness, the truer goal
An tell myself it doesn't matter
Until I'm greeted by the Mad Hatter,
Then the Cheshire Cat smiles at me.
and directs me to a place I don't want to be
I'm forced to confront the hidden parts
To prepare myself for the Queen of Hearts
.
It's a pill to swallow....
That the meaning of being too tall
Is just another way of becoming too small
And the meaning of being too old
Stops the journey, and puts you on hold.

So through the looking glass, I roam
Until happiness finds me, ,......and I get to go home.

I don't find the birthdays scary but I do find the future daunting when I have the time to think about it!! Thank goodness I'm usually too busy having FUN!!

A very Happy birthday to you. It's 80 I'm worried about, not as far off as I would like it to be.

Very nice, Jiminy. You know that's true, mid decades get to me too. It means I am then in the high whatever decade it is.

Bad things can happen at any age so I think the message is to enjoy each day. We all know that but few actually do so, myself included. Oh well, I hope things get better for you. Thanks for your response.
