my dad died in 1960. last thing he bought me was Schwinn.

green phantom bike

i still have it.

i found a web site that has history of old bikes as well as serial numbers for various styles and makes.

serial number on my bike shows it was made in sept 1959.

it is in good condition. fenders has surface rust an the varouse logos have tears. the paint is still good.

deep greeen on the horn.

i have no idea of the value n not intersted in selling it.

i have new white walls i will put on it . i ride it every so often. the front tire is origianl tire. it need replacing.

Thanks! Yes it was a brightly colored bike and not only that, the headlights were Donald's eyeballs! As I remember not really very bright for riding at night, but pretty cool all the same.

Aw, I wouldn't sell it either. I wish I still had the Donald Duck bike. The bike was given to my sister by my grandparents for her birthday. Bonnie died at the age of 12, she was 8 years old when she got the bike, so there are a lot of reasons why I wish I still had the bike.

Oh, you can save pictures on your computer by down loading them, that's how I got the pic of this bike. Or, I can also go look up the style and year of yours. Yep, I think I'll do that, kind of curious about it now.

What a cute bike . I like its simple design, bright colours and sturdy frame - I had to laugh at the quirky use of Donald's eyeballs as headlights. Who would have thought its value in today's currency.

Isn't it super how one blog can trigger memories of our own?
My first bike was a used one and I put a lot of miles on it. Years later, my step dad worked a lot of overtime one month, and bought me a new Schwinn and my sister a new tricycle. My bike was handed down to her when I no longer rode it.

That's a really nice bike....I would have loved that as a kid......I got my firt bike when I was 11......before that I rode my dad's bike by putting my right leg under the bar, but there came a time when I was too big to ride under the bar and too small to ride over it......My favourite was to sit on the bar while my dad rode his bike......so snuggly.
Thanks! Yeah, I loved it, but outgrew it. I can picture a little girl trying to ride a bike under the bar, that must have been hard to do. I can't remember the make of my next bike, but it was another hand me down bike from my 3rd oldest brother when he outgrew it. I do remember hating that bar at first, then got used to it. I never got to ride on the bike bar with my dad, so sweet that you did. I do remember riding on the handle bars with my oldest brother though.

That bike was made to last! Can't tell you how many times I crashed it when I was learning to ride! The eyeball lights were kind of quirky, almost creepy, lol.

Yep, it is super, but how a stroller triggered the memory of a bike was kind of weird. Maybe it's because it was something we actually used when we were little? Don't know. I never got a Schwinn bike, I do remember some of my friends having them. As kids, those bikes were a quick mode of transportation for us, no one asked mom or dad to take them anywhere, we'd just hop on our bikes and go!!
