I looked for my reflection in the bean, but couldn't find it. I'm in there somewhere.

That is very interesting.
It was a favorite place for our kids and we used to go a couple times a year to enjoy all the museums. I haven't been to Chicago since 2004 and I have no intention of going to that city again..... too many murders, even of just people who are going about their lives.

2006 was the last time I visited Chicago, and like you, there is no way I'll ever visit it again. So sad that it's gone down the tube like it has. I never got to see the Aquarium Museum while there, never got through the entire Museum of Science and Industry, The Art Museum and the Natural History Museum. I think I got all those names right, right? Millennium Park has been shut down because of COVID, so no more happy faces playing in the water. So sad!

I grew up in Chicago...left there to join the USAF in 1961, never returned except to visit family every couple of years, last time about 15 years ago. No family alive there now.

I lived on the near North Side, about 20 minutes or so from Navy Pier, Grant Park, the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, Natural History Museum, and about an hour to the Museum of Science & Industry. I was at the MSI when the U-505 submarine exhibit opened.

Like others have said, the city has really deteriorated...corrupt politicians and police force, unenforced gun laws, white flight, decaying infrastructure, etc...it's not surprising its population is shrinking.

Lucky you! You've named places that I guess I'll never get to see. I called it the Aquarium museum, oops, thanks for correcting that. I'll still never get to see it now. No idea what Grant Park is, but I have heard of the Adler Planetarium. Now the only way I'll see these places is online. I barely remember the submarine exhibit at MSI, I was trying to see as much as possible in a very short time. I do remember Lake Shore Drive, that area of the city looked pretty nice, but then that was 15 years ago... things may have changed a bit since then. I read about the shootings in Chicago that kill innocent people, and let's call it what it is, gang shootings, no gun law is going to put a stop to that because they don't follow laws.

The Stainless steel Cloud Gate sculpture was not there when I had the opportunity to visit Chicago in the year 1984. Thank you so much, Nile, for posting the pictures. Maybe, during my next visit to your part of the world, the Bean would offer me an opportunity for a selfie,
Stay well and safe.

Somehow Chicago has never landed on my "go someplace you've never been once a year" list but that Giant Silver Bean would be worth visiting.

Thanks for the lovely photos Niley, they are brilliant. I remember my friends and I spent the whole day on Navy Pier when we visited Chicago. For the life of me I can't remember what year it was. I will have to check that out. We all enjoyed our visit and had a great time.

My son loved everything about the city when he was there. He is a big Chicago Bears fan, guess that explains it.

Thanks again, Niley.

You visited 22 years too early to see Cloud Gate Looklook and maybe once the world opens up again you can come over and get those selfies with the Silver Bean... I'd like to see them.

I'm not much of a city person, I've been to New York and to me it was just ok, my daughter loved it there, but Chicago had a lot of things that interested me. I didn't even know about the Silver Bean until I saw it and thought it was pretty cool looking.

I've never been to Chicago, but I've seen many photos and film footage of "Cloud Gate" and always thought it was a really cool example of public Art.......I can see why people call it the Silver Bean.....I can imagine it would be really fun to play with the reflections.
It's more amazing in person, I hope you get to visit there someday.

You're very welcome Maudie, glad you enjoyed them.

I forgot how big Navy Pier was until I looked at some of the other pictures I took and really surprised we didn't stay there all day as well... but we didn't, we wandered off. I had one brother who liked the Bears, but can't remember which brother it was? Four brothers, what can I say?
