Moving right along!!!!! A quick success is always encouraging.
Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
Nileyears replies on 2/20/2022 11:49 am: Feels good to get that out of the way. I'll dump it on my way into town this afternoon and hope it doesn't take forever to get it out of the trap. |

No tank to just drown it in and be rid of it permanently? Daleks have the right idea when it comes to skunks............
Nileyears replies on 2/20/2022 11:53 am: Nope, only water troughs for the horses. LOL, if Daleks were real, we wouldn't be here either. |

For a while last summer it looked like a family of skunks was going to set up home under the front stairs of my house.
Fortunately they left.
Nileyears replies on 2/20/2022 8:25 pm: Lucky you! Seems like once they find a place, you can't get rid of them. |

Very good and so glad you are treating it humanely. Very proud of you.
Nileyears replies on 2/20/2022 8:32 pm: Thanks. Skunks do have a purpose besides being stinky. |

Good for you and I hope you managed to dodge the spray! I'm not familiar with the scent of skunk, only know that it's really bad! lol
I think a donkey a more practical option to a llama also - can eat same feed as your horses and no special fencing requirements. I haven't come across many donkeys but I do think them rather sweet and a welcome alternative to a frisky horse even though it may take a while to get from A to B (if at all), lol
Nileyears replies on 2/20/2022 8:52 pm: LOL, Lilium, the last thing you would ever want to smell is skunk! It's bad, very bad!
The skunk didn't spray me and it took it's sweet time leaving the trap. Acted like it had all the time in the world while I sat in my truck waiting.
Donkeys are smart, they are also ornery, some are even sweet, but those are just the personalities of the few I've been around. My Grandpa loved mules more than donkeys and horses, yet they're a mix of the two. Mules also make good guard animals, but not going to decide on anything yet, not even sure about replacing my birds at the moment. |

PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHEN GOING AFTER SKUNKS. THEIR BIT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
Nileyears replies on 2/21/2022 7:18 am: Thank goodness it didn't bite! They are known to be rabid. We had to shoot one a few years ago, it was coming at me and my daughter in broad daylight, flipping around and acting kind of crazy. We had to burn the dead skunk to keep it from giving rabies to other animals that might eat it. |
