REPEAT, just in case words go missing: What does a retired person do with all that spare time? Something they enjoy! After I retired I decided to get back into playing music, after all, chickens and horses don't need hourly care, neither do repairs and property upkeep... even though I noticed yesterday that I have some fence repair, that can wait till the weekend. Before the lockdowns I joined a guitar club. We go to members homes and play and share our music with one another all over the state of Texas. Well, some of us do, I'm limited on time and can't be gone more than a few hours. No age limit, some are around my age, but we have members younger than 40 who like hanging out with us old timers. Personally, I do it for the enjoyment of playing, not to become center stage, or famous, though I believe some of the younger members would like that to happen. We have one young man who drives down from Oklahoma who actually plays in quite a few paid gigs and making a name for himself in his home state. So hopefully we all have something that gets us out of the house, something we enjoy and can share with others. Life is short and getting shorter by the minute. Cheers!

When my arthritis started bothering me enough that I wasn't playing my guitar anymore, I gave it to my grandson, who is a very accomplished guitarist. I knew he would treasure it, because it was mine, even though his guitar of choice is electric. That was several years ago. Then several months ago, a package arrived that I was not expecting..... it was from him, and contained a new guitar that was somewhat smaller and easier to play. I hate to admit that I don't attempt to play it much, but I really should. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Niles, It's a wonderful gift to have. The guitar is my favourite musical instrument.  My creativity starts and ends in the garden, not much I know but I enjoy it.

IT IS REALLY ESSENTIAL RETIRED PEOPLE FIND ONE OR MORE ACTIVITIES THAT KEEP THEM BUSY AND, WHEN POSSIBLE, OUT OF THE HOME. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR GUITAR MEETINGS, THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN AS WELL AS INSTRUCTIVE. IN MY CITY, WE OLD FOLKS ARE WELL TAKEN CARE OF, OUR SOCIAL SERVICES PUT ON NUMEROUS MANUAL AND INTELLECTUAL ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS DAY-LONG EXCURSIONS? SOME FREE AND SOME A BIT EXPENSIVE. PERHAPS THAT IS WHY THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE OVER 100 HERE, WHO KNOWS?

I knew he would treasure it, because it was mine, even though his guitar of choice is electric. That was several years ago. Then several months ago, a package arrived that I was not expecting..... it was from him, and contained a new guitar that was somewhat smaller and easier to play. I hate to admit that I don't attempt to play it much, but I really should. Pick it up and start playing! I tell myself to practice at least 15 minutes a day and end up sometimes playing for a couple of hours at a time. I start out with a warm up to get my fingers stretched, do a couple licks and that alone takes up those 15 minutes. Tuning doesn't count, lol. I fell in love with my daughter's new Martin electric/acoustic guitar, so my daughter got me one just like it last Christmas. Not like I need another guitar, that one is number 5. Now I'm looking at a Takamine 12 string I tried out, sounds so beautiful.

I don't play any musical instruments. I never had the opportunity when I was growing up. My youngest brother played the guitar when he was younger but I doubt he plays now. I enjoy music and I listen to YouTube on my computer to different artists. I enjoy most kinds of music except . I am a big fan of some country artists and Blake Shelton is one of my favorites. So go for it Nileyears who cares if you can't play the guitar very well.

Bluegrass, Irish and blues are what I play mainly. Also enjoy family kind of music, dance music, happy tunes, the 'dead darling' songs I'm not that fond of. Started with guitar, a bit of slide also but then went to harmonica, then mandolin and penny whistle. I still play monthly with an Irish group but sadly the organiser has had a couple of strokes and I'm not sure how long it will last. There's very little bluegrass music here where I live. Just have to rely on Y.T. for listening and learning. I envy you living in the U.S. great music is everywhere. God bless. Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

I used to play guitar in a folk group. Afterwards we had Irish "hooleys" at home and in other peoples houses. Singing was great and anyone who played an instrument brought it along. Those were the days my friends!!! The funny part is that after joining AA all thehouse singlongs started and not a drop of alcohol in sight. I started playing my guitar again, voice and fingers rusty now, but I ploughed on. Most of the people who took part, (including one of my sisters) have since passed so the nostalgia took over at t times.. I enjoyed your blog.
