No idea how the picture ended up sideways?

I was going through some photos and found a picture of a Cardinal sitting on my truck mirror. That brought back the memory of that silly creature.

Last Spring I was sitting in my office when I heard a tap tap tap. I had no idea what it was and then heard it again. I looked out of my window and saw this little Cardinal sitting on the mirror of my truck. I kept watching him flit down and back to the top of the mirror. He reminded me of my little parakeet Chico, admiring himself in the mirror, or flirting with what he thought was another bird.

At first I though it was really cute, but as time went by, that little bird was making a huge mess on that mirror. He eventually found the mirror on the passenger side and did the same thing. After that, he found the mirrors on my other truck and proceeded to do the same to them.

I couldn't drive anywhere until I cleaned off the mess from that darn bird! Windex and paper towels were left in my trucks at all times. Then I started covering the mirrors with those plastic grocery bags to keep him off of them, but if I didn't put them back on as soon as I got home, he was back to business as usual. That crazy bird even followed me when I drove away, cussing me for taking his girl friend away!

Well, one morning all was quiet, didn't see the little guy anywhere, no tapping, nothing. I thought he had moved on, well, I was wrong. The high winds had ripped the plastic bag off the passenger mirror of my newer truck and when I went out to take them off to head to town, I noticed blood on the door of my truck and a tiny little red feather stuck to it.

I was so sad! That little bird was driving me crazy, but I didn't want him dead. All I can figure out is that the neighbor's black cat got him while he was admiring himself in the mirror.

There must be some kind of moral to the story here, or some kind of saying that goes along with it, but all I can come up with is: Vanity Kills

NILE, YOUR WORDS 'TAP TAP" REMINDED ME OF THE POEM BY POE, THE RAVEN.

WE HAD TO WRITE A PAPER ON THE MEANING. I THINK IFAILED HAAHHAAH

THE DAYS WILL END ... TIME WILL BE ETERNAL

Never would have thought about the poem "The Raven" had you not mentioned it. Ah, but this little guy never spoke the word "Nevermore'. I think my soul is safe, LOL.

Sometimes birds do the strangest things!

Here, I have a flicker [a small member of the woodpecker family] which loves to tap on one of the metal roof vents at about 6:30 am every morning in the Spring. Fortunately I'm always up before it starts~~ LOLOL

Yes, some birds do!

LOL, I think maybe your little friend liked the sound of the metal. Woodpeckers are loud even tapping on wood. Used to have one here trying to go through a power pole.

This is Senior Friend Finder. Ya just never know what will happen when you write a blog

We get a lot of birds in our back yard. It is fun to watch them through the kitchen window or sit on the covered back porch. We do it a lot.

Somedays we sit on the back porch when the weather is nice and have our lunner (lunch/dinner). Lunner is our main meal and an ice cream bar or ice cream for a snack in the evening. Off to fix our lunner and eat on the back porch. Each of us have a large wooden tray and our plates goes on them.

It is so nice today so that is probably where we will eat.

True! That's why I started C/P my posts because of the deletion of some words, but never had a problem with a picture before.

You have a beautiful place to sit and enjoy your lunner and the birds.

Birds can make an awful mess at times, especially on the clothes line. Many a time I had to rewash soiled laundry from the line. Hard to be mad at them though, they are such beautiful little creatures.

Your little feathered friend came to a very sad end. The sneaky cat must have pounced and took him by surprise . That's one thing I don't like about cats.

Nileyears replies on 4/1/2022 2:15 pm:
Yes, birds are messy little creatures, but I have always loved them. I forgot about the mess they can leave when clothing is hung out to dry, but here's Spring and I'll be hanging clothes out and will be reminded of that soon enough.

I haven't seen the cat in almost a month, I think the coyotes got him. Also no kitty tracks on the hood of my truck, a good sign that he's gone.

One morning when I got up there were two crows sitting on the telephone wire in front of my balcony. It was funny watching them. I couldn't figure out at first why they were rocking back and forth until it dawned on me they were cawing. When they caw they rock balanced on the wire. Then the female was nuzzling the male's feathers. It was so cute. I kind of wondered if the male crow was asking her when she was going to lay her eggs. I am sure most of this is exaggeration on my part. But it makes for an interesting story.

Nileyears replies on 4/2/2022 7:03 am:
I'm sure it was cute to watch the crows and give them a story, but who knows what birds are thinking, ever, they're just fun to watch. The two main birds here right now are Mockingbirds and Sparrows. I've only seen one Cardinal so far and a couple doves. Crows are here year round, but mostly stay in the back part of the property. I chase them away because they kill the other bird's nests and they enjoy feasting from my garden and fruit trees.

I also have Flickers here. I understand that how intense the pecking is indicates their desire to attach a mate. I just let the dogs out and all is well. The dogs care less but the Flickers move on .

Thanks for the chuckle, but sorry he came to such a disastrous ending.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Nileyears replies on 4/2/2022 4:41 pm:
Thanks, but yes, it's sad to have ended that way.

I do have another Cardinal here now and noticed a female with him today, so hopefully I won't have to worry about him looking for love in the truck mirrors.

Sounds like a bird of prey or a cat got him, sad.

I (and many others) have the same problem over here with what we call a Pee Wee or Murray Magpie. It's a smaller version of our common Magpie.

People have used mirrors to catch birds such as peacocks, they just cant help themselves.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Nileyears replies on 4/2/2022 4:51 pm:
I'm pretty sure it was a cat, the blood and feather were below the mirror. I noticed the cat from across the road has gone missing as well, so Karma. So now my neighbor has lost both his outside kitties. My bet is coyotes got them.

I heard Magpie are friendly birds. I was watching some video not too long ago about a woman making friends with one and it brought it's friends over to join in the fun. Cute birds.

I've heard that about catching Peacocks, there's that vanity.
