They say the color is blue, but Araucana, or Easter Eggers, look greenish blue to me. One of my girls actually does lay a green egg as you can see in the pic.

Color depends on what you feed them...right?

No, it's the chicken breed that determines the color of the egg. White, red and brown Leghorns lay white eggs. Any breed that lays white eggs have white feathering under their ears. Brown eggs are from breeds like Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock and Dominiques.

I have heard people claim that white eggs aren't really white, they were bleached. Not true!

Thank you Darter, I will do that!

I'm sure you have heard of Murray McMurray Hatchery in Iowa, they have the Ameraucana and Blue Ameraucana (< beautiful birds) breeds which is from a cross of the Araucana chicken, but don't know what other bird they were crossed with. They also lay blue/green eggs. I've gotten some beautiful birds from that hatchery, oh, and they also have geese! I plan on getting a couple next year, just not sure which breed of goose I want.

Oh..... geese! Oven-fresh roast goose with red apple cabbage and dumplings at Christmas is a tradition in Germany like your turkey at Thanksgiving. I am wondering that I never find fresh or frozen goose meat over here. Lots of turkeys instead. LOL Those that end up on the dining table come from local farms or are imported from Poland. A goose is a goose, haven't heard of different breeds!

I think the hatchery's main office is in Webster City. I'll have to see if JD's mom would like to have so0me more chicks come next spring as they are her "pets" not mine. I would not mind some Geese here but we have a Resident Bobcat that might enjoy Goose dinner too!.

A frozen goose here in Hy Vee is $82 ... a bit too steep for us. I am afraid if I got the geese they'd soon become "pets"
like JD's mom's chickens. It is not easy to get the red cabbage for Christmas for much of the holiday fare . ALSO the Polish Smoked oysters from the cold Baltic waters.... Several breeds of geese white, Grey, and multi-colored in between.

My Mom had Toulouse geese, but there are also African geese, brown and white Chinese geese, Buff geese, Pilgrim geese, and Roman geese to name a few. Oh forgot Canadian geese, but those aren't domesticated.

I had a friend who raised turkeys until she was attacked by her Tom turkey. He did quite a bit of damage to her leg. And I thought my roosters were bad! Oh, she said he made a great feast for Thanksgiving Day, LOL.

All white Leghorns when I was growing up, 300 of them on the farm, all for egg production.

All the breeds you mentioned, Nile, did not make it to Germany. LOL Ours were as white as snow! Wild geese crossed over but did not settle down and did not end up in the oven for dinner....

White geese from Germany are called White Embden Geese. They originated by the Em River in Germany and were first brought to the United States in 1821.
