I like Lowe's. I've bought lumber, appliances and hardware there. BUT, I had a bad checkout experience last spring and now I avoid them as well. Their website said they had swamp cooler media I needed. They didn't. Or the clueless employees didn't have any idea. SO, I went and loaded up some pavers I wanted, cheap but heavy. Went to checkout, short line. Some lady buying plants and they couldn't figure out her discount or whatever. I stood and watched as people made a beeline to the other line while the 'manager' focused with the clerk on whatever. Once the line went down I switched and then after watching the ladies gab about their grand-kids or whatever something went wrong there too. I was done, left the cart right there and walked out. And the manager Bitch hollered after me "oh I'm sorry...." Insult after injury. To little to late I didn't look back. So I complained online and got the obligatory "we care we care we care" bullshit. Went home and ordered the 'media' online from HD. As an aside, Lowes bought out "Orchard Supply Hardware" (and Craftsman). My dad worked at an OSH after he retired for about 20 years. BTW OSH was established to serve the orchard farmers that used to dominate the fruit basket of the world, AKA Silicon Valley. Like many, it seems Lowes keeps trying to reinvent themselves, and the bullshit of "may I help you" and "did you find everything ok" is just more fake service. OSH is done too. Truly a shame. I would say these establishments are taking the ideas of the empty skulls full of mush coming to the workforce from college as managers

We have a Lowes and a Menards within a mile of each other and the Menards is always busier. I personally also prefer the Menards. I think they have more selection and friendlier, more helpful staff.
As for appliances, we have a Dick Vandyke Appliance World that has a great selection, decent prices and a 10 year guarantee.
So yes, I could see Lowe's going out of business.

They're closing in Canada as well. So many people here that I know rely on them for better pricing and customer service, from what I hear. I don't simply because there isn't one around where I live so I end up going to Home Depot, or another such store (whose head office is in Quebec but they have stores throughout the country), called 'Rona'.. one happens to be a block away from me. It's all about convenience for me.
