Joe's card was breached once, we found it upon our return from one of our trips to Nashville. I had gone online to check our bank account to see if all charges were accurate and saw a small charge pending that shouldn't be there. I called the bank, they obtained the information for me and gave me the phone number.
I called and it was a company in an eastern state and said it was for a pair of sunglasses, but they were waiting for the mailing address to complete the transaction. When I explained I didn't make the purchase and it was fraudulent, they removed it. The bank immediately cancelled the card and issued a new one.
We racked our brains trying to figure where it might have happened and I talked to the managers of the hotels we had used. On our next trip, when we ate at our favorite little night spot, we found out a waitress had been fired because she had been "playing loose" with customers credit card numbers.
Now, we never give our card to the waitress or waiter at the table. I go to the cash register and the card never leaves my sight.
And yes, I check our accounts frequently.
