I guess the key word is essential..... what is considered essential?
There is a story of a couple of brothers who do buying of hot items and reselling them who bought up all the hand sanitizer they could find. But then, because they were literally scalping people with the prices, Amazon and eBay shut them down, and it is my understanding that hand sanitizer is not allowed to be sold on those sites at the moment. The brothers were stuck with close to 18,000 items and ended up donating them because they couldn't sell them.
Now, looking back several years to the Beanie Baby craze.... people thought they just had to have them, and many did buy them up in their area and resold them for outlandish prices. Of course, those were not essential items, just hot items that people wanted.
Bottled water for a hurricane ravaged area would be essential because water is essential for life and the water supply in those areas is often contaminated, so bottled water is essential.
Is toilet paper "essential"? There were sales of it on eBay that were five times the normal price...…. but people were bidding on it and paying those outlandish prices.
So in answer to your poll question, I still have to ask, "What is essential?"

mrs joe

my spin on this is this.

since i was a baby. i learned. if u dont eat. u dont shyt.

thus seems food should be essential not dod od paper. living in rural alabama asa young kid. we used leaves, pages from catlogs or corn cobs.

one must wonder does any of the toilet paper hoarders have any food.

Panic and greed are rampant, yet our shops here in Ireland are full of toilet paper. The Euro shops never run out of it.
