I think even the MSM is starting to question his decision about putting those patients back into the nursing homes, where they continued to spread the virus and many died, all alone because their families could not be with them.
I've worked in several nursing homes, and even in the best of them, the CNA are the least trained of nursing staff and do the primary care of the residents. That is not a jab at them, just the facts. Another fact is like in all areas of any profession, there are good ones, average, and just downright poor ones. Those homes are so understaffed most of the time that they will hire just about anyone. It's not just the pay, which is pretty good in our area, but the job itself and the fact that it is 24/7, 7 days a week, so they have to work weekends at times. It seemed many of the younger generations didn't want to work evenings or nights or weekends. (That was ok with me, as a night nurse, I preferred the older CNAs because they seemed more conscientious and dependable.)
Nursing homes, or long term care, are just that...…. HOME to many people, who in their latter years can not live alone or handle their own basic needs. They are not medical facilities in the sense that hospitals are and are not physically or emotionally equipped to handle a lot of contagious patients.
Occasionally, we would have a patient in isolation, due to an infection, but that was just one or two at the most in the whole facility and most of their care was done by the nurse or CNAs who were checked out on isolation technique.
They are not meant to be nor should they be used to treat multiple patients with a condition like COVID. I believe Cuomo sentenced those people and others in their facilities to certain death by not letting them be admitted to the hospitals or other COVID facilities.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

The virus situation is tragic for so many and I'm deeply sympathetic to all those affected. That being said, I'm not American and have no political ax to grind.
You have misunderstood the evolving policy in New York State. Cuomo clearly stated that virus positive patients from nursing homes should only return there from hospital IF the nursing home can provide adequate care for them, including the necessary isolation and social distancing. If the nursing home cannot provide this, they are to call the NY dept. of health as virus positive beds are available in specialized facilities elsewhere.

As Mrs.Joe says, for nursing home patients-their nursing home is their only home, where they generally are most comfortable and receive care they would not otherwise get.

The extra beds provided to NY were in anticipation of projections of need given by the federal CDC. Being prepared is not wasteful, particularly when dealing with a health crisis of this magnitude.
