THE 92nd STREET Y

I do quite a lot of knitting. I love shopping for yarns too....I only use the loveliest, softest, best quality yarns.......I've even spun and dyed by own yarns. I have friends who knit as well and we get together to knit and chat.....Women of all ages.....I also love that young women come to me for knitting advice and expertise gained from experience.....and of course, the ongoing "needle exchange" ...(which is an inside joke)........I have always needed to keep my hands busy....it's soothing to knit, crochet or sew by hand.....

Nowadays, I like to listen to broadcasts while I knit......there are many choices. CBC "Ideas" lecture series......I go to you tube for science lectures and various discussions. I often enjoy the conversations at "The 92nd Street Y" venue .......Tonight it was a conversation between Alan Dirshowitz and Chris Cuomo ...it was from Nov.16, 2017 and called "The State of Civil Discourse"..........My hands fairly flew listening to the two of them.....they have known each other most of Cuomo's life since Dirshowitz was a friend of Cuomo's father........A very lively, fascinating conversation.....

I thought of posting this blog because yesterday, several people accused me of being jealous of Melania Trump and I thought, Wow, these people have no clue who I am.....so I thought I would talk about what actually makes me jealous......Tonight I felt jealous of Chris Cuomo for having the circumstances, the upbringing, education,
family etc. that brought him to the place where he could have a lively conversation with Alan Dirshowitz in front of the fabulous 92nd Street Y audience.....I was green with envy.

Hi Daylily......nice to hear from you.......I learned to knit in school in Norway,
so I use mostly the European method. Here in Canada, we call the 2 methods the Continental Method and the British Method. The Continental Method is more balanced, because it uses both hands equally and so causes less strain and less likelihood of of repetitive action damage.........I often switch back and forth and/or use a combination of both methods depending on the project. Most of those I knit with do the same thing........I find that some combinations of needles and yarn don't work well with the European method, particularly in cable-work.

I often admire intricate patterns that I see my friends knitting, but personally,
I find complex lace or colour patterns really frustrating and I'm happier just knitting. Lately I've been knitting shawls in a lace-weight cashmere/silk blend.
I call them sampler shawls because I do random patterns. A lace-weight shawl gets tedious after a while, so I make it up as I go along. I knit them in moss stitch and then vary from there.....I just finished one in a pale, silvery grey.......The various textures add interest.........Happy knitting Daylily...
