BONFIRE....... One of my grandsons wanted to build a fire late afternoon yesterday. He isn't allowed to do that without supervision, so he asked me......A valuable survival skill to have....and so cheering on a grey January day.......      |

We always enjoyed a bonfire with our kids, and usually cooked hot dogs and roasted marshmallows over it. After the children were all fast asleep, my husband and I would take a blanket out by the dying embers and enjoy a little together time.......... but definitely NOT this time of year! Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

We always enjoyed a bonfire with our kids, and usually cooked hot dogs and roasted marshmallows over it. After the children were all fast asleep, my husband and I would take a blanket out by the dying embers and enjoy a little together time.......... but definitely NOT this time of year!

It melted. We had a white Christmas for a change....that was lovely. I built a snow-man....I put a shaggy wig on him and a red scarf with white polka dots.....He was there in the evening and melted overnight. I met my grandaughter off the school bus and I told her that my snowman disappeared...that when I got up in the morning, all that was left was his scarf and his hair laying on the grass. I guess my tone of voice was more amazed than I realized, because she proceeded to explain to me, in great detail, the Science of melting......LOL....She often explains things to me. She seems to think that the World is as new and mysterious to me as it is to her. I treasure those explanations and just nod my head, perhaps ask some questions. Near the end of Christmas Vacation, she had some Christmas money burning a hole in her pocket. We have all come to accept her "stuffy" addiction and we knew that's what she would buy.......Anyways, I took her stuffy shopping. Or, at least that's how I thought of it, but to her, we were going stuffy shopping together.....She bought a stuffy in one store, then we went to another store that had way nicer ones.......She fell in love with a stuffy there and regretted buying the first one. I told her she could go back to the first store and try to return it, but she had to do it herself, I wouldn't do it for her. Consequences......She did and was successful. Then I fell in love with a stuffy......a beautiful soft polar-bear. Now, I have never bought a stuffy for myself. I have bought many for children, but never myself.......LOL........It was a beautiful really soft Polar Bear.Then my grandaughter had a big problem.....she had miscalculated and didn't have quite enough money for the stuffy she really wanted. I gave her the money and we walked out of there very happy. My polar-bear stands on his ice-floe surveying his kingdom.........The proprietor of the stuffy emporium told my daughter several days later that we were so "cute"shopping for stuffies together.......It's really fun being an old lady and entering the world of carefree childhood instead of always having the role of the in-charge, responsible adult as we were for so much of our lives.....I'm rediscovering play......I'm getting to know why they call it "second childhood"
