STORM......

We had a crazy weather weekend here on the West Coast. Hurricane-force winds coupled with the highest tides of the year. Here, it meant staying off the water....huge waves loaded with driftwood.....nothing like being in a small boat in huge waves and being in a trough and looking up at the crest to see it topped with a huge log that is about to be hurled at you........We were told to stay off the beaches, but a bunch of our friends headed up to Ucluelet and Tofino on the West Coast of Vancouver Island to watch the storm.........Meanwhile, back home, the ferry was docked for the whole weekend, stranding people on both ends.......The electricity was knocked out and the Hydro crews couldn't get over.....My -in-law was working in town and was stuck over there and my had extra hours on the island, so I spent the weekend with the . We stayed in our fleece pyjamas all day and huddled around the fireplace and read books to each other, played the piano and sang, my grandson showed me his new yo-yo skills, etc......I woke up to the electric being back on and I sure appreciated my shower this morning............The wind has finally stopped and the sun is shining.......

I am thinking of making a visit to Tofino next summer, any recommendations as to where to stay? It's been on my to-do-list for years!

Wow!!! Anytime humans think they're in control, Mother Nature just smacks us around a bit, eh!

Glad everyone is safe & sound!!

Sounds like a biggie for sure. Whenever I see big logs on a beach,
I wonder what their arrival looked like.

Well, that depends what you're looking for.....What kind of experience you want. I've camped several times at the Provincial camp site, I've also stayed at a couple of different bed and breakfasts, but I've mostly stayed with friends who live in Tofino, Ucluelet, and Bamfield and Catface . ....I recommend that you do some research online and think about what you want to experience.....I know there are all kinds of resorts, guided fishing and kyak tours. There are many hiking trails, whale watching boats. If I had never been there and didn't know my way around boats and had the money, I would hook up with one of the larger boats that have accommodations on-board. They go to more remote places, sight-see along the way, anchor in protected bays and carry kyaks that the clients can use to explore. They give you lessons and a safety course if you are inexperienced.......There are so many amazingly beautiful and wild places up there, including endless hiking trails.

The weather can get wild up there, even in the Summer, though, so need appropriate clothing. If you're wanting to just have a luxurious resort experience and wander the beaches, there is that too, and there's lots of amazing Art to see in Tofino and Ucluelet. .......

Yup!.....That's why I have chosen to live close to Mother Nature all my life....It keeps me humble.

That's a really cool way to look at it......."I wonder what their arrival looked like"......Like a dance recital.
