SHOPPING..........

I started this on Mrs. Joes blog about weekend plans, but it got way too long.........

Well, I had plans with a friend, but they got cancelled. I spent all day Saturday shopping instead......I keep putting it off because I loathe shopping. I actually went to a lingerie store and tried on bras.....you know the kind of store where the assistant checks up on you....stands right outside the curtain and asks if she can come in.......asking questions about the fit, if she could bring me something else.....even before I have the first one even on.......I finally found the one I wanted and bought 2...one in nude and one black.....that should do me for a several years.......Then on to buy jeans.....got derailed by the display in my favourite clothing store.......looked longingly at the over-priced tops.......I just don't trust myself to choose something that I will continue to like enough to justify the price.....some old program left over from having who need new shoes every 6 mo..........I finally made my choice.....a flowing scarf/summer shawl the colour of Virgin Mary's cowl.............

Then on to jeans.......Torture........I go to a store that sells nothing but jeans......a gazillion styles and looks........The sales-girl approaches........late teens........I felt a lot of trepidation......the other customers were young.....but I was determined.......and, she was wonderful, and when I gave up.....all the women's jeans that fit me otherwise, have this extra fabric in the upper thigh......all of them....just sort of pouff out there......Of course, this has always been a problem for me and why I keep putting it off......But then the manager, also a very young woman comes over to help and I think, oh no, now I have to go through it all again......I feel so fussy.......Well, I am fussy......persnickity when it comes to what I wear .....I buy quality and I expect to pay for it, but don't have many clothes......I want what I want, but I hate all that attention........but apparently she had been paying attention while serving others, because she just asked me one question and disappeared, coming back with a perfect pair of jeans......31 waist, 33 leg, mostly cotton, boot tops...only 1% lycra, not too flimsy, but not heavy, a proper Indigo blue, not too dark, lightly distressed, beautiful decorative seaming in classic Ochre......and fit in the outer thigh without that extra pouff......I was so happy.....and I only tried on a dozen pairs.....Yay

Then I went to the shoe-store to buy some sneakers......I was standing there staring at Women's sneakers .......They looked so alien.....all that White and Neon colours.......I would be startled every time I saw my feet........Each pair seemed to have a different purpose........jogging, training, walking, support here, "barefoot" comfort there.......when a sales-girl breezed in, ponytail swinging, training gear, chewing gum like she was trying to set a world record and got extra marks for popping......she put her hands on her hips, cocking one and asking me what I was doing........Doing.....what the fk you think I'm doing, standing in front of a sneaker display and picking up one and then another and examining them......I asked her some questions and basically she just chewed her gum at me and told me, between pops, that I should just get the ones I like and then walked away........I was too tired to deal with her and decided I needed to make a special trip to town just for sneaker shopping........The last 2 pair I bought did not fit and cost an arm and a leg..........

I went to a couple of more stores, found a lovely blouse and then on to Canadian Tire for a new reading lamp that clamps onto the headboard of my bed........Overwhelming ....too busy on a Saturday afternoon, but I persevered and finally found some help. She was very helpful and I chose my lamp. Long lineup at the till......chatty strangers........Finally got on the ferry and more chatty people........Then onto the grocery store.....I was on the 3:30 ferry, so I got to the grocery store around 4.......I was feeling so exhausted and wondered why......Then I realized that I forgot to eat or drink......I kept putting it off......I had breakfast at 7:30 and not even a drink of water. I just went right over to the juice cooler and took a bottle of orange juice and chugged about half of it right there.......Ahhh.......5 minutes later I was feeling great.......Wow, I actually shopped for jeans and bras.......I had been procrastinating for months, but it wasn't so bad......thanks to those lovely young women at the jean store.

Next time, I will make a lunch date with one of my friends who live in town that I have been neglecting for too long......I also put lots of money on my ferry pass, so I won't allow the price of ferry tickets stop me.........Yay, Spring is here.!

I always find shopping a trial. I'm a get what I want, and get out, type of person.

You got through the day, and that's the main thing. Your jeans sound perfect!!

That sounds like a "shop till you drop" kind of day, and believe me, I would have given up and dropped a long time ago. I got tired just reading about your shopping spree.
I hate shopping..... shoes, clothes, furniture, grocery, and anything in between. The only kind of shopping that I enjoy is second hand shops, thrift stores, garage sales, and flea markets.
I have worn the same style of bra for over 20 years and still find it comfortable, even though the size has changed. The same with my undies. As for pants and tops, I find something that I like and get several colors..... jeans and I parted ways a long time ago.
I recently saw a brand of shoe in the arthritis magazine that I wanted to try, called gravity defyers, but the cost was more than I was willing to pay just to try them. There were no stores in our area that carried them either, so I couldn't even try them on. I searched on eBay, and found a preowned pair that looked brand new and made a bid on them and won them for about a hundred dollars less than they sold for retail.
The fit beautifully, and I like them, but I can't say they are the miracle shoe they are supposed to be. And their logo on the side can be quite disconcerting or humorous, depending on how you think about it. It looks like a drawing of a sperm. When my daughter noticed it, at the doctor's office, she told the nurse, "my mother has sperm on her shoe." Kids! They can embarrass me even when they are 40 years old!

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I love antique/junk shopping, but I rarely get to do that......the closest ones are a ferry ride and 30 min. drive......just never get around to it.......Anyways, I have sworn off.....Used to upcycle junk.......now I watch an English Netflix series about these two men who do it for charity......there sure is a lot of cool junk in England.....Probably in your area too.......I live in the frontier....nothing here but trees, rocks and chuck until a few years ago....

I love shopping but my entire wardrobe these days is from thrift stores and garage sales. I often get young cashiers in stores, similar to that gum popping clerk you got in the shoe department. The young ones are so annoying because none of them ever say 'thank you' or 'you're welcome', but they all say "NO PROBLEM". If it was possible they'd all be giving out HIGH FIVES too.

Instead of trying on bras, I have only recently discovered sports bras and I love them. I would never wear a regular bra anymore.

About the jeans, they're always too short for me unless I can find some that are extra long

Being a very sensory person, online doesn't work well for me..Colours can look so different online and I need to touch fabrics to know if I want to wear them. I was asked by a family member what I wanted for Christmas one year and I said nightgowns. Instead of buying one good quality nightgown, she bought a package of 3. They were sewn with monofilm nylon and trimmed with really itchy lace........They gave me nightmares........

I spent my teen years in a frontier town, so I learned to sew and alter clothing from an early age. I had 5 sisters, 3 of them younger, and I loved making matching clothes for the 2 youngest, who were 2 years apart, but always the same size in elementary school. I made clothes for my friends who wanted the more extreme styles not available in our conservative town. It was a lot of fun. My mother taught me how to alter patterns. I kept the measurements of my clients on file. I remember my first male client.....I think it was grade 9. He was in a band and wanted a flowing white pirate shirt and a pair of harvest-gold,wide-wale corduroy ,
bell-bottomed pants.....really flared.....but tightly fitted at the top........I had never fitted pants on a guy.....Neither of us anticipated the agonizing embarrassment that it would entail........my face gets hot just remembering.........I read the pattern carefully.....They were hip-huggers and then........I tentatively took his measurements and all was fine until the first fitting......I was focused on hemming....it was crucial.....they had to clear the shoe-tops in the front and the floor in the back.........In order to get that taper right, the pants had to hang straight....so I adjusted them by stroking down the leg.......but something wasn't right, so I peered up at him and he was beet red, and gave me an odd look, and that;s when I saw the huge bulge that was changing the fit...........We took a break and eventually got it done, but next week at school, his friends were jokingly pleading with me to adjust their fit........My friends were asking me what I had done to get all that male attention.......

Writing the above, I started thinking about those boys and realized they are the the old men who just asked me to join their "glory days", facebook group.......awwe.....
