SPRING FROTH......

I hiked 6 or7 miles today up to a marshy lake. It's park now, but it was a homestead at one time. The farmers blew up the beaver dams so the water would drain out and then farmed the reclaimed land, which was very rich......This was common practice on the coast at one time. These fields are mostly flooded now and are home to many beautiful birds. I inadvertently flushed a flock of mallards that were hidden by the reeds......so exciting to watch them rise, the water droplets sparkling and their excited honking.....they were accompanied by a large Blue Heron that kept his dignity throughout the spectacle and just stood there, waiting for frogs, I suppose. I also watched a Red-Tailed hawk hunting frogs. He would dive from a tall fir and skim the water with his talons and then fly back to his outlook high in the tree and spread his wings wide to dry them in the sun, showing his red tail.........

When I was running an after-school program in a building on the edge of this park, I and my young male assistant would often take the to this area. There is a huge, moss-clad old Maple nearby and they would ask if we could go to the Maple .......The old meadow surrounding it was overgrown in spindly young Alders then, about as big around as their arms and 8-10 ft. tall. Alders self thin at that stage, their trunks turning into a styrofoam-like substance until the wind made them topple. The loved pushing them over, yelling "Timberrr" at the top of their voices.....They were sure they were doing a great service by thinning the trees........Now, the remaining trees are as big around as those were and 40 ft tall.................

Here are some photos I took on my hike....I hope you enjoy them.

I enjoyed the pictures and would have enjoyed the nature in person, but I could not have taken the hike. I'm glad that you are still able to do things like that.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

I love being in the open air, watching birds and enjoying nature. Seabirds are my favourite to watch, but really I love all birds. The feeling of being among trees and other plants and animals inspires me with thoughts of how natural life survives through all hardships we humans throw at it.
We might think we rule the world...but in reality, nature does... and where would we be without it.?

We should always honour and celebrate it because without it there would be no human race.

Beautiful pictures Sparkle, thank you from me too.

In Japanese, there is a term.....Shinrin-yoku.......it means taking in the forest atmosphre or forest-bathing and is considered to be very beneficial to one's health and is actually prescribed by doctors who work in the field of preventative care, which is a robust field in Japan.I always feel regenerated and peaceful when alone or with a sympatico companion in nature

I hope you can find peaceful natural areas that you can access. I met a friend along the path and he carried a stick to steady himself in certain situation.....I was actually thinking that when crossing very hummocky areas with tall grass making the ground invisible........or a downed tree across the path with many branches to step over.......When I walk on the beach with my grandkids , the always look for a Nanna-staff and I use it and leave it there, I don't want to be hampered with a stick that I have to carry............ the only problem I have, really, is getting back up from a squat sometimes, which I do a lot of when taking photos......My daughter is encouraging me to do squats every day to build up those muscles........My Physiotherapist says that at our age, our goal should be to continue being able to get up off the floor..............

Every day I feel so much gratitude for the privilege of living here. The oldest Human footprints ever found, were close to here in the last few years.........Standing on the clam-beach with clam-shell middens all around......Thousands, perhaps million of years of Humans or proto-Humans, sitting around a beach fire waiting for the tide to go out so they can gather a meal and fill their stomachs.. A long line weaving through time.....I know what you mean........thank you for such a thoughtful comment.

"Among Nature" sounds right to me. "In Nature" sound like you are not a part of Nature, not a participant, but just an observer.......I'm not sure when Humans started seeing themselves as apart from Nature......it was probably a gradual process......Anthropology gives us glimpses into Humans who interacted with Nature on a level that we don't even have the language to describe. Our language separates us from our foundation......

There were 2 articles published in 1947 in the two most prestigious peer-reviewed Science journals in the World by the most accomplished Physicists of the day. One of them proved beyond a doubt that light was composed of particles and the other proved beyond a doubt that light was composed of waves. Who was right?......it couldn't be both......impossible.......the experiments were replicated by the best Physicists across the globe.....new experiments were born......and then, the startling truth was faced........Light is composed of either a wave OR a particle depending on who is conducting the experiment.........the Human observer affects the outcome just by observing..........We are participants, not mere observers........This is an extremely simplistic version of Quantum Theory, of course, it's how my father explained it to me when I was 7.

But it was the captain of my personal ship "Discovery" as I explored the World and found that Primitive peoples understood their Quantum nature and then forgot....that span......the forgetting ......that's been my exploration all my life......everything else is peripheral.
