Reminds me of another meme I saw. It showed eggs of different colors, but when they are broken into a dish, they look the same. A lesson we would all do well to learn, perhaps we would show more respect to others with superficial differences. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

SNUFF PORN WEEKEND I have a suspicion that some readers here are innocent enough to be unaware of what snuff porn is. "Snuff" films are those which purport to show the actual murder or a suicide of an actual human being. "Snuff" of course derives from "extinguish," like a candle. I bring this up because Lulu has characterized Easter weekend (on a blog by BBlock) as an orgy of snuff porn by Christians, who ritualize the contemplation of the torture and crucifixion of their Savior. They are getting sexual gratification from this, she suggests. I suggest two things: 1) This is one of the most extraordinarily bigoted statements I have ever seen. It doesn't matter that the writer is an atheist. Atheists are not called upon to abuse and scold believers. Lulu is not an atheist but an anti-theist. She just not say merely "I do not believe," but rather you are perverted fools if you do. 2) Look just one step further and you see that Easter is the ultimate anti-snuff event in human history. It is the triumph of life over death. The crucifixion is not the center of the Christian Easter. It would not have been worth observing ( crucifixion was a common execution method for criminals) had it not been for the Resurrection, which is the central event of the Christian faith. It therefore is the repudiation of "snuff." I say this not in anger at Lulu but astonishment. I would hope that her words would offend other atheists and agnostics, and those who struggle with their faith, in addition to orthodox Christians. Lulu has a tendency to characterize choices others make which do not accord with her beliefs in the cruelest possible terms. To what end?

To take a trip back to elementary school, you fight like a girl. You scratch, bite, and kick. You revile me because I am onto you. So you see this conversation as a fight, eh?.........LOL.....We come from very different cultural milieus.....You refuse to reveal your religious beliefs, but you live in the US Bible-Belt and that obviously informs your attitude to a large extent. I have lived in a culture that is largely Astheistic all my adult life. Religion is a private affair here and people who like to worship with others go to churches, but there are many different denominations and religion is never brought into the public sphere. It took me a while to understand why people on this site were so upset by the meme I posted......It was widely shared on the internet and chuckled over. I found it on my facebook feed and it was received with amusement.....I certainly didn't see any indications of anger or the extreme reactions seen on this site. I still don't understand how anyone can accept that image as a serious representation of Jesus......It's ridiculous..........No one here responded to my comment indicating the ridiculousness of the image......Who would have thought that any Christian could like it?......Or, perhaps you can enlighten me?.......Do American Evangelicals accept any image that someone says is a representation of Christ?....Or is the one I posted their preferred imagery?.....What is the criteria for an acceptable image? What is it based on?.....Certainly not on history or genetics"......Maybe Jesus being all magical and stuff rose up from his death and transformed into a Caucasian and received a dozen meters of starched and chlorine-bleached cotton from the 21st century......Maybe they were those great sheets Maisie was going on about.....They certainly would look just like that wrapped around a guy... it must gave just magically folded and draped itself like that.........Whatever.......What makes that image an image of their God?........... I did get a glimpse into what was going on, when Bigblock used the word "Blasphemy".......I haven't heard that word for more than half a century, except in the context of Muslim extremism.......It didn't even occur to me that blasphemy was still a thing anywhere in the West......Thing is though, that the concept of blasphemy only applies to the Religious.....it doesn't apply to Atheists.....I hope y'all realize that. Then there is the gorgeous piece of prose I came up with......I was really proud of that .....you know, that so outraged you that you felt it deserved a blog of it's own.....an outrage blog it would seem. Again.....different culture, I keep forgetting. I live in a culture where the word "porn" can be a metaphor.....where people can appreciate words without immediately taking them personally....without applying their knee-jerk defensiveness of their religious icons......when you know I don't comply with the idea that supernatural beings are in control.....specific supernaturals......with myths and names and books and tax-breaks attached...........The whole conglomerate is just another collective fantasy to me..........You accuse me of lacking Human decency, but to me, your Religion is indecent.......The Easter story especially........Sorry, but we have very different ideas of what Human decency is.......It's not up to you to define all of Humanity by your standards.......
