What's The Difference Between Evangelicals and Atheists?

At least Atheists are honest about not following Jesus......

The term evangelist refers to someone advocating the view of Biblical inerrancy, as opposed to the Roman Catholic view of Biblical infallibility. Thus, Evangelists are all Protestant Christians. But not all Protestants are evangelists.

Atheists hold the view that the spiritual claims of the Bible are myths.

No one is completely honest. Some evangelists don't really follow Jesus yet don't realize it, and some Atheists believe more on the existence of God than they realize.

GBU,

Gavin

Here's my answer in an old Gloria Gaynor song.

I am what I am
I don't want praise, I don't want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it's noise, I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not try to see things from a different angle
Your life is a sham
Till you can shout out
I am what I am.

I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a damn till you can shout out
I am what I am.

I don't need to be what anyone else thinks I should be. I Iive up to my own set of human standards...not theirs. As far as I'm concerned that's as acceptable as any other belief.

Yes, I'm well aware that you cling desperately to Jesus as your get out of jail free card........You have conveyed that endlessly on this site.......That's what I mean.......you have concocted this banana-split Jesus that allows you to behave any way you want.....in your fantasy, all it takes for eternal life is to subjugate yourself before your imaginary super-hero.......

If you look at the history of Christianity......at all the different beliefs, the thousands of denominations and millions of different interpretations of the same words in the Bible.........the arguments over translations......is it "young woman" or "virgin" is it metaphor or actual? Is it a fable to convey a lesson, or is it an actual event?...........There is no way to know.

But they all call it "Scripture"........There is even an academic subject called Theology, in which these interpretations are endlessly digested, regurgitated and eaten again, like starving dogs........

They re-invent God and Jesus in their own image, to fulfil their own desires, to calm their own fears, to reassure each other that they will live forever in Paradise while their enemies burn..........

I have every right to answer comments on my blog any way I want.....just as you do. The question in my title was rhetorical, as should be obvious in my blog.........You and Rich took it as an invitation to proselytise......... You say that you and Rich are entitled to your opinion, yet you think I'm not, because you don't like it......LOL........

You didn't seem to notice the insult in Ricks last sentence.....why is that? because you're on the same team?.......He denies reality and mocks Science, while pushing the superstitious fables of primitive, illiterate goat-herders......that he has interpreted to match his own needs and desires.

This is what I mean about Evangelicals not following Jesus......After all the lessons Jesus teaches in the Bible, your focus is always yourself. Jesus suffered and died so you can be "free" and can live forever in paradise.......That's it. I taught Sunday School , I remember that kind and gentle Jesus that was all about helping the poor and sick and the righteous Jesus who took a whip to the money-lenders......All I hear about Jesus from you is how his suffering helps you.....that's it.......

I saw that Bigblock had plagiarized again....it's kind of sad, isn't it?

Both he and Rich posted a definition of Evangelicalism.......I don't know why......They either get super-sensitive or super defensive/offensive........Bigblock comes into my blog with his dukes up and posts belligerent comments and accuses me of looking for a fight......Lol..

I just wonder, you know, about these Evangelicals......they are super into getting favours from Jesus...they like that he suffered and bled a lot.....so they can live in Paradise on his dime....like Jesus Welfare and Medicaid for eternity........but they're against forking out any of that compassion and forgiveness themselves......They just want to be on the receiving end........Anyways, that's what this blog was meant to be about.......it just doesn't compute to me........it's all about being a sinner and getting washed by Jesus's blood..........but what would Jesus do if he was here now...........Where is Jesus right now anyways......I mean, if you were all powerful, wouldn't you think he could show up once in a while.......I know some little children who could really use some loaves and fishes and a good cuddle right about now.......

They do say confession is good for the soul...but what exactly does that mean to you? That once you've confessed you are free and forgiven to go out and commit the same sins again? Without even trying to change? Isn't that just bending Jesus to your will?
If you believe that, then you are sorely misguided...and dishonest with yourself.
Confession and forgiveness are all about the learning and progressing of the soul in order to enable humanity to move forward. They are not a safety valve, were never meant to be the get out of jail free card that you have turned them into.
That's what I laugh at.

You said you weren't going to respond, yet here you are again. When I was teaching Sunday School I was a believer........Lots of people's belief's change as they mature and grow.......I see no love in you .........I do see constant deep bitterness and judgement........You are not obliged to comment on my blog........

You completely missed the point I was making though......Your rigidity of thought is glaringly obvious......

You're the only one who gets what I was trying to say.....it seems so obvious to me, but these guys are so brainwashed, they can't think outside their religion-cage.

I have no clue what you're describing to me......what the conditions were......were you semi-comatose? Under the influence of drugs? Half asleep? People's imaginations play tricks on them.....If you believe in an afterlife where people retain their egos....their identities after death, your sub-conscious has probably created possible scenarios.........I see and interact with people who have died when I dream.........yesterday I got a facebook post that reminded me that it was my friend's birthday and I should send her good wishes...it included a very vibrant photo of my friend laughing...I became suspended in a time warp while I cycled at high speed through intense thoughts and feelings......like movie-heroes whose whole life spins before them as they die............My heart was gloriously free and happy and excruciatingly sad and horrified at the same time........until it hooked on the reality that my dear friend had hung herself from a doorway 6 months ago and in a panic, I had punished myself for not having anticipated it and stopped her.........and that I had neglected to erase her from my friends list...........I felt all of the feelings and thought all the thoughts in a split second......like we do in dreams.

I thought the "Banana-Split Jesus" line was especially good.......You guys are such snowflakes when it comes to your religion......Because of the unmanifest nature of your religious iconography, the only way to communicate about it is to use analogy and metaphor. Any religious tract depends on analogy. Look at Marbella's daily post......or Dan's religious posts.....Or any preacher who ever was, including Jesus........I'ts all based on analogy. What choice is there when you are talking about things that don't actually exist?.........

Hence the problems you and other Christians have when you encounter analogies that are outside your experience......outside your usual experience of the pre-approved Christian analogies and metaphors.

Not everyone you encounter is going to use your in-group language.....Your religion doesn't belong to you.......I have the freedom to approach religious norms and expectations from a different direction.....I'm a creative, mischievous person......I like challenging perceived notions.....I like mixing it up....In my mind, Banana-Split Jesus is no less disrespectful than those paintings of a perfectly turned-out blonde, blue-eyed Jesus wrapped in meters of bleach-white, ironed, machine-made cotton..............Loosen up a bit....it's good for the heart.

It seems obvious to me too, Sparkle.
Most glaringly obvious is that both rich and Bigblock so strongly profess their belief in God and Jesus. Which, intrinsically, must include the belief that God created all human beings equal. While insisting that this is absolute fact, they display constant behaviour that completely denies it.
They don't understand that the real message they are sending out is "If you ain't with us you're against us" And it doesn't matter whether it's politics, religion or anything else... as far as they're concerned if you disagree with them you are not worth calling human. Which is surely a huge insult to their faith... and to the God they insist they love.

Thank you for sharing that with me Bigblock.....I do want to know you better.......Even when you are under anaesthetic, your body is still functioning.....nerves are sending impulses to your brain.....Many people experience hallucinations after major surgery......That's where all the NDE stories come from....I have experience with hallucinogenics and know how convincing it can be............

Once when I was coming out of anaesthetics after a surgery.....I was having my tubes tied.......I was screaming "You bastards did it again" at the top of my voice. I remember nothing, but the nurse told me that there was a young teenage boy also in that room who was so terrified by my screaming that he called the nurse......Apparently she told me I was OK in a soothing voice and stroked me and I went back to sleep.
