NATURE EMBELLISHED...... After having completed 70 of these embellished Salal leaves. I have acquired bursitis in my shoulder and a blister on my finger........and running of thread.....my favourites being the ones I've spun and dyed with dyes I collected in the same places as the leaves.......in the forest near my home.........This work I do in reverence........and in celebration........My goal is 0 leaves and then I will design a project to display them together.....maybe a stylized Salal bush. The first photo is of Salal in the wild.....It's an evergreen shrub that is very prolific here...it grows in the forest and along the edges of forest......It also has edible, delicious berries that are ripening now. You may have seen it in florist arrangements.....It is gathered from the wild here on the coast and shipped far and wide to florists........           |

Wow!!! Awesome art~~~~  Really?? I guess I've been missing some comments re: photo-realism vs. creative arts~~~ I very much enjoy both!!  Plus....anything that's fun or interesting other than politics is great in my opinion.

Thank you......The Salal leaves are the only ones that are suitable for this work ....only the old ones that are ready to fall.....the first year ones are too delicate. I press them for weeks first or else they just curl up when they dry. But anyway you are very creative. "The only way to have a friend is to be one."

What a lovely thing to say.......Yes, the leaves are definitely the seniors of the Salal world........The new leaves, the bright green smooth ones with no blemishes and discoloration are too fragile to hold the stitches..........
