I like it. The small brass? figure looks to be cradling a small bird in its hand - could it be the lovely St Francis of Assissi, patron saint of animals and ecology? /COLOR]

* More specifically, St Francis blessing the bird cradled in his hand - not sure if icon small or brass

It is a bronze statue of St.Francis of Assissi......It's a foot tall.....It was made by monks in Spain and bought by a friend's mother from a Catholic mission in the Baha desert in the last century......I bought it at a garage sale after her mother's passing.......I've been a fan of St. Francis since childhood.....The original Environmentalist.....

He's standing in front of a painting I did about trauma..........

I love where you went with that.....I can see it with the hood and holding the bird......Having spent my first decade close to the Arctic circle ......I'm very interested in Inuit spirituality.......

Where I come from, there was a belief that if you sit on the ground too early in the Spring, you will get "Bakke duns", which is a sort of madness, sort of like what is said to come over people during the full moon.........When I was in my 20's I was delighted to discover that the Inuit have the same belief.......I remember very clearly, as a child. sitting on the ground in the early Spring and then remembering the warnings and jumping up and, for several hours afterward, monitoring myself for signs of madness........

But then the red X blood marks could represent the (INQUISITION) and the warrior could represent the killers who enforced it for the church.

There are certainly different icons. They are definitely interesting. The longer you look at them the more details you see. Great post Sparkle.

Thank you.....I like it too.....especially the bird on his head.....gives it a whimsical touch......which I'm sure is a characteristic helpful for communing with birds.

No I haven't been there......I just watched a video by a young couple I follow.....they make great travel videos.....They just went to Rome this week....they had to jump through a lot of Covid-hoops, but it was interesting to see Rome so empty of tourists.....

I will put Assisi on my bucket list.

Interesting...... which is another I word.

The bronze (thanks for clarifying) statue certainly has been on an interesting pilgrimage of sorts dating back to the last century. Where is the Baha Desert - couldn't find it anywhere - could you have meant Bayuda Desert in Sudan or Baja California Desert, Mexico?

Yes, I wondered about the macho figure in the background - is he linked to the painting's trauma theme? Is the trauma about abuse on all levels perpetrated especially by men?

Just another thought - is the trauma painting about man's ruthless destruction of the environment - that the placement of St Francis in front of the painting is strategic/ties in with the trauma sustained (environment) theme (?).

Yes, I meant Baja........I have the Provenance around somewhere, but basically it's made by the Franciscan order of Monks....The statue stands on top of a shelf, above which hangs my painting which is named "Movement" and which was painted as a representation of my journey through healing from trauma....It is a very large and detailed piece.....it includes some dried leaves of the "Vanilla Leaf" plant, which were coincidentally situated in such a way that they looked like St. Francis's wings......
