Oh wow Sparkle what a lovely photo. When you are on the ferry you can get some really lovely scenes of water and sunsets.

Beautiful.

In 1959, I went to a Summer camp on an island near Vancouver.....I don't remember which Island, but the experience is what hooked me on island living. We embarked on our trip to the camp from The CNR station dock where the Van. Art Gallery is now....It wasn't a car ferry, but a small ship. The camp was on a huge property that included a lake and a creek and a huge stone and log building that was the dining hall and headquarters for the leaders......It had a huge stone fireplace......There was an outdoor chapel in a grassy meadow through the forest. There were pews made of hewn logs and in the front, behind the altar, was a 10 ft. carving of a bear with it's arms held out like Jesus welcoming the children.....

On top of a steep hill behind the camp was a huge cross made of varnished logs that we could see from the water as the little ship neared the island... It glowed golden in the setting sun.

We had a lot of fun activities, but every afternoon we had a 2 hour "rest" period confined to the cabins, where we were expected to read, write home, chat etc.....I had a really hard time with that.....I was so restless I wanted to scream.....So one day, I slipped out of my cabin and went exploring. I was well versed in wilderness hiking and orienteering, but the camp adults didn't know that and it didn't occur to me that they didn't.

We had been promised a hike up to the cross on the hill, but for some reason it was cancelled and I was very disappointed.......I was familiar with the mouth of the creek on the beach and it was obvious to me where it came from and that if I followed it, I would get to the cross and as long as I stayed with the creek, I wouldn't get lost.......So that's what I did.....I spent a lovely afternoon following the creek all the way to the top of the hill and the view was as spectacular as I had anticipated.

When I broke through the Salmonberry, Salal and Sword Ferns down by the beach, I was met with a flurry of activity which turned out to be a search party looking for me.......The adults were in a panic.....losing a camper was their worst nightmare. Of course they were very angry at me and I was relegated to my cabin.....I wasn't even allowed to participate in the evening campfire session, which I really loved, where we sat around a campfire in our PJs and sang songs and put on silly skits and ate PBJs...........Fortunately, next day wa the last day.

I wish I knew what island that was.

Does The ferry drop you off at a large city?
My question is do you have Home Depot & Wal Mart next to the boat dock or mom & pop trading post stores?

I miss living close enough to the ocean that I could go and spend time there on the beach and watch the sunset.

I used to tell my daughters that their Dad was out there somewhere. He was career Navy. I still chuckle when I remember them looking and saying...where, I can't see him.

Interesting.
I was thinking you lived alone in the wilderness on an abandoned island. LOL
You have more development there than the town where my man cave is located. The town here is what they call a 1 horse 3 stop light town. LOL
A person must drive 40 miles to buy a shirt.

I love that sunset foto..... At 9:30 it's pitch black where I am. Did all the small businesses make it through the lockdown?
