My Mother loved hanging the clothes out to dry...the only thing is in the winter Dad's long johns would freeze up and we almost had to remove the window to get them back in...our clothes line was attached to the side of a giant balcony window...but Mum hung them with pride.

That would make a good comedy skit....

I remember those days when mom would hang out her laundry on the outdoor line. Reading Pinkthunder's comments about the long johns that would freeze on the outside line. I recall seeing that as well. Mom would take them inside and hang them up so they could dry. Our house smelled like the fresh air outside.
I have a dry rack that I use to hang a lot of my laundry to dry on. In the summer the drying rack sits on my balcony and the clothes get hung on it. My drying rack is not noticeable from the ground as I don't like to advertise that I do this. Not only do you save on electricity but wear and tear from drying clothes in the dryer.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THOSE LITTLE STUFFED ANIMALS? WHY WERE THEY IN THE WASH? I CAN DRY CLOTHES ON THE BALCONY BUT THE SHEETS AND TOWELS GO IN THE DRYER. WITHOUT ANIMALS.

I know what you mean...I wash a lot of my clothes by hand...I enjoy it...my bras and undies, wool sweaters, nice blouses, delicate garments, scarves, leggings, tights...dresses.....I hang them in the house on a rack in the bathroom, or outside in the yard I have a clothesline or hang them on the Huckleberry bushes....

Stuffed animals get very dirty.....They get dragged around by sticky children....through the sandbox, through the garden, children hold them while they sit on the potty...they get thrown around on the floor and even get puked on sometimes.
