The chipmunk

Another post about nothingness.

So i headed off for an early day in the woods. Pre-dawn darkness gave way to the first rays of sunshine. Rain finally moved out and the ground had absorbed the puddles. Yay. No more soggy bottom. Hunkered up against a large oak tree, I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned by head slowly toward the movement.

Staring back at me from the emptied hollow of a fallen tree was a very curious chipmunk. It stared at what must have looked like a very strange camouflaged shape with eyeballs. I stared back. Neither of us blinked. And then. Then I could swear it roared at me! Its head rolled back and its mouth opened wide. There was a small noise of course, but for a chipmunk it must have sounded ferocious! LOL Who knew chipmunks could roar!

These are the small joys keep me heading out into the woods on many a morning.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming!

Your post is NOT about nothingness at all!!

For many of us, the simple pleasure of enjoying a 'moment' is very important.

Nothingness? That's rot. It was about everything! You captured the moment and that is something we all should do.
I think you would be a very interesting person to know in person. I hope someone who can match your capabilities comes into you life to enjoy it with you.

In the late 50s my cousins & I would spend several days each summer at our favorite aunt & uncles farm. They had no children & claimed to enjoy our being there. LOL
There was a nice waterfall where one creek ran into another and a swimming hole.
Near one of the creeks a colony of large lizards lived under a bunch of large thin flat rocks. They were about 18 inches long from nose to tip of tail with varied low key coloration.
The things would sometimes chase us if we invaded their territory.
Sooooooo of course we would sneak up to the rocks and flip them over. LOL
Then the chase began. We were always wondering if a rattlesnake would be under the rock & prepared to run like hell. LOL
The lizards would jump at us when we flipped the rock & it would make the hair stand up on back of the neck. (while vacating the premises) (fast) LOL Couldn't help but instantly think SNAKE!!!! even though we were expecting a lizard. We called them mountain boomers. I think they are extinct there now.
Quail have also disappeared.

There is another story about my girlfriend helping me seine minnows in the creek. She opened up the seine & about a five foot water moccasin came out of there. LOL It was like a Chinese fire drill. No disrespect for the Chinese. LOL
Well of course I was a MAN I didn't scream like she did. LOLOL

There is another one about my youngest son catching a duck while fishing at granny & grandpas place. But enough already.
Party On!

Hey there TX. That's quite a story.

Funny because a few years ago. I climbed up a tall rock pile mountain in AZ. It was dusk when I came down and I had to hustle to avoid having to traverse the loose flat rocks in the dark. I got back to my hotel and cleaned up before heading to the bar for dinner and a beer. When I told the bartender the story his eyes opened wide. And then he squinted and looked at me. He said ... boy, do you know how many rattlesnakes live on the barren pile of rocks? I guess sometimes, ignorance is ignorant. Now I always ask a few questions before I head out!

Again TX, thanks for sharing!
