I would like to know the lyrics of that song.
Even if I did post the lyrics of that song, you wouldn't understand the racism without knowing the history of the First Nations locally.......I will tell you one thing though, that there is a group of islands on the North Coast, where I grew up.....North of where I live now, Those islands have been the home of the Haida people for tens of thousands of years. They called them Haida Gwaii, meaning the home of the Haida. When the English Colonists arrived, they changed the name of the islands to the Queen Charlotte Islands. That's what they have been called for a couple of centuries....that;s the name on all the maps and official documents........that's what all the white people called them.

Starting in the late 60's, the Haida people worked at changing the name back to Haida Gwaii. In 2010, they finally succeeded........It was a huge win ......and the Federal Government declared that the islands belongs to the Haida people....

Now their biggest project is to save their language from going extinct....the only fluent speakers are over 70.......They have done a lot of recordings, it is part of the curriculum in the schools and all the Nonnas are teaching.....they recently made a movie in the Haida language with the same company that made Snow Runner.......They have Haida language apps. They get things done.....

This is where I grew up and most of my friends were Haida and Tsimpshean artists........There is a lot to learn.

I know what you mean.....I have been speaking out for the First Nations People here on the coast since I was in elementary school.....and have gotten a lot of flack for it over the years.....We have moved a long way from the Colonialism and racism, but we still have a long way to go.

Hello Sparkleflit...........Yes indeed you do know what I mean. I thank you for being that type of person. I know that it takes a lot of energy and courage to take a stand that is not popular with a lot of folk. I hope that you will continue to speak out for the First Nations People.

I am glad that you do that and I will tell you why. I have a lot of white friends and some are very outspoken about the plight of Black people in this country and what should be done etc. This is what they say to me but they do not say it when it matters or if they are in the presence of other whites who are racist or think that black folk are an inferior race of people.

I can understand being afraid of backlash when you take a stand on an unpopular subject but to see a man murdered on TV and not say anything as some of those "friends" have is cowardly in my opinion. Not all of my white friends are like that but some are.

Brightsmile, I can't add anything to what's been said about the crime itself .. but like others it made me sick to see it.

We needed something immediately that looks like justice will be served and we didn't get it. There's a reason murderers are arrested on the spot .. yet Chauvin was allowed to go home and was arrested 4 days later. That's not acceptable to me.

Real leadership was needed immediately from the President … and we got next to nothing from the criminal in the White House … yet Trump has much to say about "guilt and innocence" when it comes to his partners in crime .. and his political opposition.

Election Day 2020 we're gonna take out the trash.
Hello Dusty........I am always glad to see you respond in my blogs. I understand what you mean. When I first saw it I did not believe my eyes and when I understood what was happening I was sick. I agree with everything that you said also. I believe that this is going to bring us together as a nation. I think those folk who are looting and burning have a different agenda and it is not to help Black Folk.

Hello Rentier..............lol....I think you did a great job of saying nothing. Thanks for your responses always.
Sometimes it's the best approach.
I want to be liked.
And I have noticed that many Americans object to foreigners expressing negative opinions about The Greatest Nation In The History Of The World.

Hello Rentier.............Well I can understand some folk do not like negative talk about their country........Its like telling a mother"your baby is ugly". The baby might be but she does not want to hear you say that.

I will say this when we get rid of "white privilege" and Racism. This country will be the greatest nation in the history of the world in my opinion.

Hello Maudie...I am so glad that you responded and I am glad that you like the blog. I agree it does take nerve to speak out especially if the subject is unpopular.. You had that nerve when you responded to this blog because it is definitely not a popular topic for me to blog about. You can tell by the number of folk who did not respond to it that some folk do not feel comfortable with it. That is why i wrote it because the problem that we have in our country is that good people stay silent when horrendous things are done and the "bad guys" feel that it is ok to do those things.

Bright -- the most telling sentence in your blog is the last

"Don't forget folk that had it not been for that video (taken by someone who saw an injustice)....George Floyd would be just another dead black man."
This begs the question 'How many have died in similar circumstances and we have never heard about them?' It is this tragic sentence which captures the depth of the problem most poignantly.

The immediate addendum I would suggest however is to look at the difference with the death of Eric Garner. The protests about that miscarriage of justice (some of which were also violent ) made people sit up and take notice. The shock which many felt at the ruling that the death was homicide but that the police officer (Daniel Panteleo) should not face trial for murder and the reaction which this produced has made people more receptive to the idea that there might be a significant minority of police officers who are prepared to go beyond the bounds of a civilised society and who will not stop short of murdering black people on the street.
In this new perception this latest murder was much more easily recognised as such and the culpability of the officer much more readily accepted. There is often a continuum along which the narrative proceeds as people gain a different understanding of situations. This would appear to be what is happening here, each incident has propelled the narrative in a positive direction.
I only hope that wise voices will prevail in the administration, that the understandable frustrations and anger of the black community will be recognised and that action will be taken to alleviate the fears and address the grievances of that community but I am not encouraged by the present simplistic and heavy handed response.

In answer to your original question I think there is now evidence that 'speaking out' and making your voice heard (through social media ) has proven itself to be effective and I sincerely hope that this will encourage more people to do so.

Hello Bondjam

Thank you so much for your response.

That cop made folk see what Racism and Hate has done to my country. It was not a pretty picture. In my heart I believe that things will change this time because people all over the world are ...Speaking Out.........Thank God.

We have been quiet too long. I was one of those quiet voices until I saw a white guy who was being bashed in chat for speaking out about racial injustice and other bigoted actions taken in my country. I was amazed that he had his facts and references to back up his stance. I watched for a long time and then i decided........I need to speak out.

That guy was you Bondjam33.........I will never forget you for that.

Hello Misstauri.......Thank you so much for your response and I agree with everything that you said. The people that are protesting for Mr Floyd are peaceful but not well organized is my understanding and because of that radical groups with another agenda are allowed to get in those groups and start breaking things, defacing property and looting. There are folk who blame the peaceful protesters for what is being done because that narrative fits what they want to believe .
