I had a very dear friend, neighbour and teacher in my early 20's....He was in his 70's then.... The last time I aw him, he was visiting me after I gave birth to my youngest......I was 32 then, so he must have been well into his 80s. His beard was white and long, his pants were hiked almost to his armpits, held up by bright red suspenders.....His beard reached about 6 inches below his belt.....His eyebrows also snow-white and very bushy and his bright blue eyes twinkled like always as he stroked my daughter's bright red hair........

I tried for years to capture that image....to translate it to a canvas, but it never did justice to his spirit.....always too cartoony or folksy....I have tried portraits of others over the years, but I was never satisfied with the results. I came across an old sketchbook recently that had many caricatures of my late husband, done in the evenings after the children were asleep and he was concentrating on a task.....I remember we laughed........

You have inspired me.....I think I will assemble my photos and sketches of him and maybe venture a .portrait that our children and grandchildren would treasure......thank you.....

Hello Sparkleflit................YEAHHHHHHH I am so glad that you are going to paint again. I always hoped that you would. I like your work and hope that you will show it here. I feel so good that you were inspired by my work.

Let me share this with you............That picture is of my oldest daughter her hair started greying early in one spot and it looked good on her so this year for her birthday I did this portrait of her and she was very happy with it. They say it is harder to paint a relative's portrait. She has a bit of low self esteem so I thought the portrait would show here how pretty she is and it worked.

Hello Bijou........Thanks for sharing that and I would love to see it. Why not try painting more? With this Virus going around it is a great De stressor for me during this stressful time.
Let me share my experience with a piece that i painted of Prince. I had a studio that was in a run down area, I was there because the property was cheap and I bought it. I could not sell the piece because I had used the picture of him that was on a magazine cover and I painted it just as it was. Well a few years after that I had a burglary and they stole a lot of my work. The police retrieved some of it from a pawn shop.

Well a few years later when Prince died. I got a call from somebody and they wanted to know if I was the artist who painted the piece, I told them yes. They had either stolen it or bought it from someone who did. I never heard anymore from them.

Hi Bijou........I was pleased with the Prince piece and normally I take pictures of all my work but I did not for that one.

Argentine Tango...I love that dance also. I was taking Ballroom dancing before the virus turned everything upside down. I went to visit my daughter and she took me to a ballroom dancing event and they did Argentine Tango...I was on the floor doing the Tango before I realized Argentine Tango is different than American tango......they also had food and drinks being served.......there was a name for that but I forgot what it was. a few of the folk there were from Argentina. I had fun.

A beautiful and extremely lifelike painting Bright. I am always in awe of anyone who can even paint recognisable scenes as I am a complete disaster - the only class I ever got failing marks was Art, if not for one person who was even worse than me I would have been bottom of a class of 37.
To my mind portraits are so immensely difficult because you have to 'feel' the subject rather than just seeing them. You have done that remarkably here. You have my admiration in spades.

Hello Bondjam........Thank you so much for the kind words. They mean a lot to me because through the years that we have been on this site and never met. I have always admired and respected you. We all have different talents and I truly think that yours is teaching. I love the way you stand up for what you believe to be right no matter who you irritate. I love the way that you always respect your wife and children while online. You have taught me a lot about standing up for what I believe in too. I hope that you let your wife read this because she is a lucky woman and I am sure that you are also lucky to have her.
