There is something everybody can try.

I have a routine similar to this that I do every morning.....I also do a lot of walking....usually, but with the icy conditions we have been having, I've had to get by with extending my routine.....My physiotherapist who I went to for over 20 years and recently retired in her 80's. said the bench-mark for physical fitness over 70 is if you can get down on the floor and up again without hanging on to something.......it doesn't need to be graceful.....

I'm afraid I fail that bench mark. If I get down on the floor, I have to have a chair or footstool to get myself back up, but at least I can still get back up.
One of the reasons I quit nursing was the fact I couldn't get down on the floor anymore so if I needed to give CPR, I couldn't.

These are similar to the exercise DVD I've seen advertised recently and I am contemplating getting it. Perhaps your blog is just kind of a verification that I should. I believe both Joe and I would benefit from it.
As for walking, we do not live close enough to a mall to walk on good flat surfaces and my knees do not take to walking on the uneven surfaces of my yard or our road. And like Lulu, the weather conditions make it rather treacherous too.
Thanks myseek, for the reminder that we all need to keep moving as much as possible.

One should make some of these exercises as daily routine. I stretch myself out on the floor and bicycle with my legs. I can still get up without holding on to something..

I have to admit that I lack the discipline to take a long walk or use the pool before or after breakfast as a rule. I can't get myself into gear before 11 am. LOL When I feel like it, I go over to the fitness facility in the early afternoon once or twice a week. Everything is "I should do it, not I must do it".

I think, these exercises don't need big effort. I do some several times a day wherever I sit...
