The phone has replaced so many things in our lives, but we must never let it replace the people. I hate when family comes to visit and I have to speak to a grand child two or three time to even get their attention away from their phone..... and then their eyes never leave the screen even while talking to me.

Funny thing is about that picture is that they are probably texting each other instead of talking face to face. The art of conversation has gone to the wayside. My phone stays on my desk in my office, I'm not attached to it.

I do have a cell phone and wouldn't be without it. But I don't spend my whole waking hours on it. The younger generation of my family all have cells and spend a great deal of time on them. I have a couple of friends who don't own a cell and have no plans to get one. For me being on my own and when I am out and about I think it is a necessary item and in particular at our age.

I have a cell phone and is a necessity to have one for me to get in touch with my family in Italy. We have a different hour and I don't know when they will call me. I always have my phone on my bag.

For others sed them always. It's just a bad habits using telephone when you are on the table to eat, when talking with others and on the bed ready to sleep.

We have an agreement with hubby that nobody will used telephone on the table.

It works.

We solved the phone problem with grandchildren when we learned two were talking to each other when each were located on each end of the sofa.,,,so no more cell phone when visiting grandparents.

My phone is supposed to be smart, but I keep it dumb. LOL I use it for calls only, and my contract includes international unlimited calls on a fixed rate. When I do my shopping, etc., I rarely have it with me - have a prepaid flip phone in my car in case of emergency.

I find it irresponsible and sad that little kids grow up with this kind of drug. That way their natural human nature is prepared for artificial intelligence...... They don't know better.

Sadly, some of their parents are just as bad. If they aren't gaming on their phone, they are looking at it every time it dings.
I remember when we only had a land line and my first husband could not stand to just let it ring and not answer it. He would almost break his neck to get to it.
I just figured if it were important, the person would call back later. It's the same way with my cell phone, I don't always answer it.

In addition to the addictive effect people are not aware of the harming microwave radiation. One stepdaughter carries her smart phone between bra and skin. I warned her not to do that, but she does not listen. My bedroom, e.g. is free from all technical achievements......

As long you are in control and it does not control you, it serves its purpose. I agree with your friends who live their life without all the apps and updates.......

It is a wise decision "no phone" on the table when eating at home or in a restaurant or having visitors. People either love being with me and communicate, or they can stay away.

I agree with how you handle that situation!

What I find really annoying are those that walk and text, head down not looking where they are going. I don't know how many times I have had to jump out of way to avoid being banged into.

Mobile phones are great, but there is a time and a place for everything.

This head down generation will at some time not be able to keep their head up. It could have effect on their spine, I think. How will they react when the technique breaks down for a longer period of time!
