It almost felt like a surreal magickal experience. There were crescent shaped shadows all over the sidewalk with my fairy mirrors shining light on them. Since my abode is surrounded my trees, I thought I would have to go someplace else to get a good view but it worked just fine in front of my home. My neighbors were also able to observe the eclipse with the cereal box viewer that I made. My older travelled to Tennessee with his family to see the total Solar Eclipse but I was fine with what we saw in West Virginia

It's easy to make with an empty cereal box. White paper fitted on the bottom. Aluminum foil taped on the top end of the box with a viewing hole next to it. Poke a hole into the foil with a nail, a pen, a pin. I used a Philips screwdriver. When the eclipse is happening. Your back is to the sun which hits the foil while you are viewing it through the other opening.

Copernicus’ parents might deserve some of the credit for his great discovery. Apparently at the age of twelve they said to him: ‘Copernicus, young man, when are you going to realize that the world does NOT revolve around you

A businessman met a beautiful girl and agreed to spend the night with her for $500. They did their thing, and before he left, he told her that he did not have any cash with him, but he would have his secretary write a check and mail it to her, calling
the payment 'RENT FOR APARTMENT.'
On the way to the office, he regretted that the whole event had not been worth the price. So he had his secretary send a check for $250 and enclose the following typed note:
Dear Madam:
Enclosed please find a check for $250 for rent of your
apartment . I am not sending the amount agreed upon,
because when I rented the place, I was under the
impression that:
#1 - it had never been occupied;
#2 - there was plenty of heat and water and
#3 - it was small enough to make me feel cozy and at home.
However, I found out that:
#1 - it had been previously occupied,
#2 - there wasn't any heat and certainly no water, and
#3 - it was much too large for my comfort.
Upon receipt of the note, the girl immediately
returned the check for $250 with the following note:
'Dear Sir:
#1 - I cannot understand how you could expect a
beautiful apartment to remain unoccupied indefinitely.
#2 - As for the heat and water, my apartment has plenty if you
know how to turn it on.
#3 - Regarding the space, the apartment is indeed of regular size, but if you don't have enough furniture
to fill it, please do not blame the management.
So, Please send the rent in full or we will be forced
to contact your present landlady

Those TERRIBLE reminders of the Confederacy.

I was watching a documentary on the Charlottesville Situation. I am in total agreement that some of these white nationalist are morons. They are also a bunch of carpetbaggers that came from out of state to create trouble. This could have been more easily settled without their interference.

So in the documentary, I observed a black woman wailing because of the "Great Massa in the Sky" You see him everywhere you go. Oh course, there are statues of Thomas Jefferson all over the place. It's his town. There is also Peter Jefferson Blvd and Martha Jefferson Hospital.

If you go to Lexington, Virginia - You will find Robert E Lee's mortal remains, the Church he attended and the University that he started. Stonewall Jackson's gravesite is also there. Folks throw lemons at his grave.

Nevertheless, according to Federal Law, Confederate soldiers are considered American Veterans with the same status as the Union Veterans. I am sorry this woman feels uncomfortable with all the reminders of the War Between the States but I can guarantee that she would have more problems in Los Angeles or Chicago than she does in Charlottesville.

Somehow, I don't think kicking Thomas Jefferson's gravestone and burning down Monticello is going to solve anything.

A Liberal's Take on Charlottesville Situation

I lived in Charlottesville, Virginia for a time. The Sam's Club where I was employed was one of the most diverse workplaces that I've worked in. I have also been to Lexington, Virginia. I visited Robert E Lee's Grave and attend services at the Church where he was a member.

The trouble with tolerance is that there is always someone deciding what to tolerate. A free society does not tolerate people; it allows them to live their own values. And a tolerant society is not free. It is a dictatorship of virtue that is intolerant toward established values in order to better tolerate formerly intolerable values.

A group from a white supremacy group came to Charlottesville to protest the removal of a Robert E Lee Statue. Agree or disagree, they have a constitutional right to protest the removal. They have a constitutional right to fly the confederate flag from their hoggy pick up trucks. They even have the right to think they are superior. That doesn't make them correct but neither are the snake handlers.

Plowing a car into a crowd of people is definitely criminal behavior. Nevertheless, the counter protesters had to know that when messing with the KKK or the Nazi groups, that there was going to be a fight. Perhaps they can go burn Monticello to the ground.

White Privilege, the Race Card or Divine Intervention?

So yesterday, I got into a bit of a confrontation with a bi-racial woman. There was an article stating the Christians tend to blame people for being poor. She said that was very true of Quakers because she was homeless more than a few times and NOBODY lifted a finger to help her because of her race. Another woman pointed out that she did receive help because she was able to housesit for several months. But she didn't receive help AFTER the housesitting. Dah! Are folks suppose to provide permanent housing for someone?

The bi-racial woman started give other examples of racism naming names. I've heard the other side of the story. It can cause major harm falsely accusing individuals of racism. I asked her "Is this white privilege or the race card?"

I have also been homeless more than once but always managed to survive and land back on my feet with the help of my Higher Power and guardian angels. Life is not always fair but I am certain that People of Color also have a Higher Power.

I ended up in the predicament because of my stupid decisions. (usually a man) but stressed that it is important for me to acknowledge and take responsibility for my mistakes. Professional victims are always blaming somebody else and nothing can change for the better because someone else's fault is in control.

Oh Well, I am sure I am going to hear from what a terrible, judgmental racist that I am. Life on life's terms. When wrong, promptly admit it. I'll survive.

What if Obama hit golf balls from Trump Tower

Trump said that he "could stand on New York's Fifth Avenue, shoot someone AND still not lose votes." What would have happened if Obama said that? A black man on Fifth Avenue with a gun. That might be a UGE problem.

Trump was constantly mocking Obama for playing golf. Apparently Trump also has a fondness for golf. Perhaps they can get together and play a game together. I am sure that our newly acquired West Virginia Governor - Jim Justice will host them at the Greenbrier.

The Joy of Political Labels

Political labels don't always tell the tale.. What does it really mean if someone says they are conservative, liberal, progressive, libertarian, etc?
Unless you go issue by issue and talk specifics, you really can't understand where another person is coming from. And when you use a label, you immediately put up a confrontational wall that separates you from others who may adhere to different labels, even though in truth you may well agree on several issues
